Title: [BUG][EXP] Lems don't walk onto Builder bridge after exiting portal
Post by: WillLem on December 11, 2021, 08:26:49 PM
If a Builder enters a portal, they continue building on the other side (i.e. after exiting the receiving portal).

However, new lems subsequently going through that same pair of portals cannot walk onto the Builder's bridge, as shown:

I can confirm that this is also happening with platformers.

In order to make a change here, I would need to see either (a) a good reason to change the established behavior of the teleporter in this situation (as it has the same result, I believe? EDIT: Confirmed, it does have the same result); or (b) a good reason why the portal should differ from the teleporter in this situation.

As it stands - the builder / platformer places a brick in front of himself (not directly under himself), and is a case where a skill is allowed to exist in midair. Therefore, this is the expected outcome when applying consistent physics rules, and any deviation would be introducing a special case. (As always, "it would be a special case" is an argument against it, but not a conclusive one - it can be outweighed if there are strong enough arguments in favor of it.)

After further investigation, including with teleporters, I am closing this topic as a portal bug, and will open a new one as a teleporter bug, with any fixes to also be applied to portals as well should they make the cut (while the teleporter, being an already-in-stable object, will get the fix either way).
