Title: Lemmings Revolution
Post by: grams88 on September 16, 2021, 09:59:00 PM
Hi everyone

Is there any cheat codes or cheats that you can use to skip by any of the levels, I lost my saves and had to start from the beginning. Any help would be fantanstic.

unfortunately there's nothing like that that I know of. The only thing that I can think of is if someone who's completed most of the game already to send you their files. I couldn't cause I don't have such a save file (reformatted my PC several times since last time I played the game).

Offhand, Arty, Nessy or ccexplore may have such files.

No worries at all Mobius, it's a right hard game and some of the levels are done quite well. There is a tiny chance I might have a save file located somewhere on the computer, I will have a look. Be careful if you are playing lemmings revolution, make a copy of the save file which is located in your lemmings revolution folder just in case you lose your save.

All it takes is one or two clicks and you can lose all your saves so make a copy each time you complete some of the levels.

I downloaded this completed save-game file for Revolution a while back. I never tried it because my game crashed and won't load right now. But it's here if you're interested in checking it out.

I think that will work, thanks for getting it jkapp76

I technically only have five levels left to complete so that will be a good save if I can get it working.  The levels do get very tough indeed for anyone that is thinking about completing the lemmings revolution, it's worth it big time.

I love Lemmings Revolution. But sometimes it will stop working and I have lost my save once or twice. That's why I found this file in the first place.

I have mine working again now. You inspired me to work on it. I just needed to right-click on the game executable and set compatibility to WinXP SP1.

Thanks jkapp I'm glad I inspired you to get back into the lemmings revolution. It can be a hard one to get working, I found my one on a website and when I downloaded it you had to change the language from German to English. I've only got four levels left to complete and at the moment it looks like I might be stuck on them for a while. While I'm getting there slowly those levels look hard and pernickety if that's the right word to use.

I like your crab picture for your profile. I think there is something you can do to get the crab moving but it's probably like a glitch or something like that. Have you completed lemmings revolution yourself or are you going to master it once and for all?

Yes that save file works well, it just only has one level left uncompleted and that level is one of my four levels so that's all good.

I need to finish Revolutions some day. I really like this game, but I went the longest time with it not working and beat the first half more than once.

I own the original CD. I downloaded two different bug patches and put together my own portable version of the game from those.

I forget which files are patched now. So I can't package the crack itself easily to share, but I could easily enough share the whole portable game package If someone wanted it.

I'd greatly appreciate a copy of that. I think it's best to do that via PM btw.  Rather than attaching it to a forum post

I can't believe I only have two levels left to solve, mind you those two levels are hard. Once I do that that will be me completed lemmings revolution once and for all, a hard one to complete.

Here's a link to my portable version. (it's 232MB)
Just unzip this into the folder you want it to stay in and click the "RegSetup" file to get it working.

*I also had to right-click the game's executable and change the compatibility to "WindowsXP Service Pack2" on my windows 10 PC.

This game already has two patches applied, the unlocked save file, and my own recolored game icon. If you don't want the unlocked save file, just choose, "start new game."

Guys, I think I have come across an impossible level. Could anyone confirm that this level is possible, the level I'm referring to is (Tanks a lot) I can't find a solution at all and was wondering if the level is possible. I've spent ages on this level and not getting any way at all. (lol)  The level feels broken. I'm kind of hoping it is broken.

Could anyone tell me whether it is possible without giving any spoilers.

Many thanks

Tanks a lot

Install the patch.

It's probably posted somewhere on the forum. I don't know if there are several patches, I merely know about one patch by the Lemmings Revolution developers.

Tanks a Lot and My Finest Moment are allegedly unsolvable in the first release of Lemmings Revolution. I remember that the patch notes say: Tanks a Lot and My Finest Moment are now completeable.

Thanks Simon (That explains a lot) That's actually really good news for me as I only have those two levels left to solve.

Yes, that information makes sense as that is the other level I've still to solve because of the fall distance or something like that. I've spent so long on those levels and trying to figure out the right solution, I had to be careful when looking up the levels as I didn't want to see the solution.

Hi again, does anyone know where to get the patch?

Try this version (https://www.lemmingsforums.net/index.php?topic=5756.msg93775#msg93775); it comes pre-patched and with all levels unlocked, so they must all be possible (I'm guessing that you can reset the gameplay file or insert your own in order to restore your current progress, but definitely backup your save file somewhere before trying anything).

Quick bit of Lemmings Revolution trivia: like in many Lemmings games, it's possible to rescue Blockers by removing terrain from underneath their feet.

If you're wanting to go for an all-save but need to Block on steel areas, or when there are no downwards-destructive skills for getting underneath the Blocker, you can:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Suggestion: perhaps change the name of this topic to simply "Lemmings Revolution" so that it can be a topic for general discussion of this game?

Thanks WillLem for posting.  :) I think the one's I've been trying seem to have the patch applied and I was checking to see if the (High Dive) level bombs. It didn't bomb and the lemmings were still splattering in the (Tanks A lot) Level. Yes, I think you are right WillLem, it does seem a bit harder to dig under the blocker compared to the old lemming games.

Maybe it might be a case of the save file includes the patch, hmmmmmm (This is like a puzzle in itself)

I changed the topic title as WillLem was saying. :)

if you haven't already found this thread; https://www.lemmingsforums.net/index.php?topic=1433.msg36900#msg36900

it might be helpful to you. There are quite a few differences in mechanics compared to the other games. One I personally find most frustrating is no ascending/sliding. Meaning lemmings can't walk up as steep steps as they could in L1 for example, and building to higher platforms is more precise.

I'm not sure how that would be possible, but then again I'm not sure how Lemmings Revolution stores save data. Either way, Jeremy's version should work because the save file shows every level having been completed.

If these levels are still broken in Jeremy's version, let me know and I'll see if there is a way around it.

I misread gram's post sorry. I had/have the same high dive issue. I can't remember the fix for it but I do remember somebody (probably ccx) coming up with some fix; whether it was another patch or some setting you had to change on your PC to get that level to work [the game crashes when you try to load that level]. I do know its a separate patch from the Tanks a lot or any other patches. Search the forum for it, it should still be here.
Always try running the game in Administrator mode.

It certainly is a confusing one (lol) I think it might be the case that the high dive patch changes the fall distance. It's interesting, we are certainly getting closer to sorting this one out. Unfortunately, the lemmings still seem to splat on the (tanks a lot) level, I tried uninstalling and installing it using Jeremy's version. Even though it does say that the levels are completed, they still seem to splat on the (Tank's a lot) level. (Weird one)

Would someone else be able to try the Tank's a lot level to see if it works okay?

We will get to the bottom of this I'm sure.

This is from what I remember, I may easily be a bit mixed up so like I said; best to search for yourself (and correct me if I'm wrong);

There are different versions of the game out there. Initial versions of the game were released with a couple of levels bugged; the most game breaking was Tanks a lot and My Finest Moment* They (the creators) released a new version which fixed this (was apparently just a patch, not all that unlike the patches GuyPerfect and ccx created.

Unlike any other Lemmings game that I'm aware; each level of this game has it's own unique deadly fall height. While they don't differ greatly; if you're really observant you can tell on a few levels where it's noticeably shorter and some where it's noticeably taller. I can't remember which levels but one in particular it's super short in place I don't think matters much anyway...

*and* on top of this; unlike any other Lemmings game, the difference in height doesn't go from survive to splat; there's at least 1 pixel/space (I think it's just one) where there's an essentially 50-50 chance of death. This is why when playing Tanks a Lot on the broken version some Lems may survive while most die. There is a spot left of the upper entrance on the level "Just you wait" that is this exact height (no patch for this level) which isn't nessecary to use to solve the level but you can use it; but if you do you have to keep trying until you get a lemming down there safely.

Anyways; the "patched" version essentially just increased the safe fall height distance in said levels (and nothing else).
I don't know about a fall height issue with The High Dive. My only issue with that level was the game crashed when trying to load it. I know this doesn't have anything to do with the official patched version because I have that version (never had any issues with Tanks a Lot) and I had the High Dive issue. My game also only crashed under certain circumstances, but I don't know what those were. The High Dive glitch never happened on win98 or winXP and only happened after some point I used it on Windows7. I'm sorry I can't remember when/why this occurred and what we did to fix it.

*I think there is a alternate solution to My Finest Moment that can get around the glitch but don't ask me to remember it.

Look up "pirohiko" on youtube for solutions to all the levels; including alternate solution to My Finest Moment.

Unfortunately, the lemmings still seem to splat on the (tanks a lot) level, I tried uninstalling and installing it using Jeremy's version

In that case, jkapp76's version mustn't have one of the patches that fixes these levels. All we need is to get hold of those patches and add them to the portable.

At this point, it's definitely worth us all having access to a fully working copy of Revolution which sorts all this stuff out.

are you guys still using the CD with this version Jeremy uploaded? Cause as far as I was aware the CD was required to run the game (according to ccx) even if you got everything off of it onto your PC. Mine won't load; it says wrong/missing hardware accelerator. But I didn't try using the CD either.

You don't need the CD as long as you have the files from the CD in the install folder.

Ah OK... and, should placing these files into the install folder fix the broken levels, or do these still require [a patch which isn't included in your portable copy]?

I made this patched version a while ago and didn't think I missed anything. You might have some luck downloading the patch and experimenting with swapping out different files to see what happens. I used the fill color mod too because modern windows shows parts black.

I attached the update patch here, but my copy has been patched further. This can be extracted with WINRar or a compression utility. My main .exe file has had some further mods done, but maybe another file can be swapped out?

That might actually work, fingers crossed.  The more I think about this the more confused I get. (lol)

I've been watching ColorfulArty playing through the lemmings revolution levels, interesting seeing all the different solutions to the levels.

Brilliant, thanks for this! Whereabouts in the Lemmings Revolution directory should this be placed? Does it replace the main Lemmings Revolution.exe?

This will replace my edited exe file and the patch file. I'd backup both first. Then maybe begin by only replacing the patch file. If no luck, then maybe try replacing the exe too and see if that helps.

I'm not sure what you mean, maybe I've missed something. Your post includes an .exe file, but not a patch file... ???

Here's a screenshot of the contents of the portable version of Lemmings Revolution:

Which of these files needs to be replaced with lempatch.exe? Or, should lempatch.exe simply be placed into this folder without anything else being removed?

Post by: jkapp76 on November 26, 2021, 03:01:46 AM
My post contains only an EXE file, yes.

But... you can open this exe file with WinRAR or some equivalent compression utility and see the game exe and patch file inside.

Or, backup your .patch file and game .exe and let the update replace them.

Sorry for the lack of explanation, I've been on the run.

@jkapp76 - Thanks! I've tried the lempatch update. I get a "Not a valid CD-Rom drive" error when replacing the main game exe, so I tried just updating the patch and this works, the game runs fine.

@grams88 - please can you check whether the patch fixes the two broken levels?
