Title: [NeoLemmix] The new NeoLemmix Community Pack Topic
Post by: IchoTolot on March 08, 2019, 10:50:21 AM
Get the latest Alpha build here: Current NeoLemmix Community Pack Collection (https://www.dropbox.com/s/qsjcomjzz178o88/NeoLemmix_Community_Pack.zip?dl=1)

Big news!

I've sorted, looked at and evaluated everything I have gathered so far. The result is a ROUGHLY sorted pack of the current state. Important:

- I sorted the levels into 7 ranks for now. The rank ammount is not final!
- The ammount of level in each rank is not final!
- I have not included any music, but at the moment have also not changed any spefified tracks! They MOST LIKELY will change though!
- The levels are very roughly sorted by difficulty. This is by no means final and will be a main discussion point later on. I am willing to discuss major positrion changes of a level now, but as levels will still be added and positions are likely to changed anyway duw to new levels or a restructoring of the ranks only major misplacements will be considered for now!
- The current difficulty rating is based on the evaluation of the submitted intended solution replay that was send in by the author!
- If you find backroutes post them here + send them to the author as they need to fix them personally and then resubmit the level. If the author is no longer present I or a possible volunteer will take over.
- All levels are solvable and I posses a functional replay of the intended solution. I have also watched them all and I am not totally blind here anymore!
- I have excluded a very small amount of levels due to:
    A) Too many levels of an author being in an difficulty area and I want to avoid having like 10 levels of only one author in an area - in this case I excluded the "weaker" ones. I rather have more
authors involved as this is still a Community effort and I don't want half the pack/rank be "Icho" or "namida" levels for example.
We can still discuss about excluding/replacing certain levels because of this!
    B) Variations of a level being very similar to each other. In this case I took the "most interesting" one.
    C) Levels being a remake and VERY similar to the original.
- I have slightly changed a very very small amount of single levels due to:
    A) Backgrounds being so disorienting that the level is difficult to look at/play.
Be assured that I only take action in the more extreme cases here as I do want to preserve the author's work/spirit to highlight the different styles. At some point though actions should take
place due to general quality conrol though!

The current state of the pack:

- 135 total levels
- Considering a 7 rank distribution:
    - 23 rank 1 levels
    - 22 rank 2 levels
    - 21 rank 3 levels
    - 15 rank 4 levels
    - 20 rank 5 levels
    - 19 rank 6 levels
    - 15 rank 7 levels

What you can do now:

- Playtest the current levels to find backroutes
- Submit new levels and maybe take into consideration which difficulty section needs the most levels.
- Check if I have included the most recent version of your submission. If not ---> send me an update! (level+replay)
- Inform me about errors.
- Discuss serious misplacements of levels difficulty wise.
- Discuss a possible distribution of ranks and levels inside a rank.
- Discuss over exclusion or changes to already submitted levels. In this case the reasoning needs to be strong and involvement of the author in the discussion is highly appreciated. A simple "it's too hard" or "I don't like it" is not enough!

To submit levels (converted old ones and new ones):

You will have to send me:

- The level in the new NL format.

- A solving replay with the intended solution. (no replay - no submission)

- Any needed non-standard tileset. (if nessesary)

Music tracks are optional.

I want to make sure that even if an author goes away the intended solution doesn't get lost and therefore the level gets forgotten.
Also please try to resend levels or replays if they need changes in fututre NL versions. Check your levels, I would really appreciate that!

About logo, rank sign and graphical things:

Do not waste your time now and create something for the Alpha version!

Rank amounts will change and I won't simply include graphical things because you are the first to submit.
This will be tackled after we got ALL levels, came to a conclusion about rank amount and how many levels are inside ranks.
Then I will most likely create an extra topic where people can prepare and submit suggestion on which we will first discuss and give feedback on which the authors then can react. At the last step will will hold a vote.

In the end nothing is stopping you from replacing the end result anyway and customise. ;)

Let's talk music:

I won't include 150 songs for 150 levels as an example, that's simply not practical. You can however send me fitting music for levels. I will open a music discussion when we finished gathering so we can all come to a conclusion on the music tracks we will use. There is room for a few totally unique tracks in the pack though for some of the flashier levels or rank finishers.

My rough plan here is to gather a music collection sorted by theme for the pack. That means we will gather a few "spacey" tracks, a few "dark" or "melancolic" tacks, a few "happy" ones, a bunch of "general" type ones (you see that the themes can be quite broad),.....etc
This will have the result that we can most likely select a few fitting tracks for each type of level so that the track fits the theme of the level.
Again, I will most likely open an extra topic for this after the pack has all its levels. Then people can submit tacks and we can discuss which ones we include in the collection. Be aware that the tracks shoud at least fit the general theme of a lemmings game. An example would be that a track with lyric can be very distracting.

I am against a standard rotation though as I this will most likely result in levels having very unfitting tracks at times, or our tracks have to be VERY general without much of a mood.

I no longer wish "Tell me the way to DMA" to be included in this pack.

Well it isn't included at the moment.

I think I will make this a bit clearer:

The 2nd post only list the old submisssions as I stated. As stated in 1.): For levels to become part again they need to be resubmitted in the new format with a solution replay.

So simply don't resubmit it and it's all fine. ;)

I think I will add that statement in my first post.

Here's some levels from my not-used-in-Lemmings-Plus-levels collection that might be useful from various sources - contest submissions, pre-Lemmings Plus packs, and a few levels I specifically made for NLC.

I also further have some levels that were in Lemmings Plus packs but were later removed (either to replace with a different level, or some still-viable levels from packs that as a whole were mostly non-viable with newer NL versions - including in some cases, non-viable levels that I made new levels out of). I want to keep a few of these on hand, in case of further need to replace levels in older packs due to NL updates, but I probably have more of them saved up than I actually need so will look through them and submit some at a later point.

Replays and needed style files are included. Only one of these levels (a special graphics level) has custom music, the music is included. I'll probably resubmit Crystal Light later with the lemming count reduced, it doesn't need 100 lemmings but it was created before the preference for lower lemming counts was established.

EDIT: Attachment removed; reuploaded better copy in a later post.

Hey, I didn't realise I uploaded some of my levels onto the pack. I've just re-downloaded them today; however they need to be reformatted. Is there a link to help me convert these levels into the new nxlv format? I can't find it.

"Mind the Gap" I believe is an old version - here is the latest version with a replay.

I don't currently have access to my files for the two Precarious Construction levels, but if you can provide the raw level files, I will attempt to convert them and re-solve them.

I suspect you already have a new format NL editor+player.

Simply load the .lvl files with the new editor (you will have to set the file search to .lvl opontrying to find the files) -- then save them again and they will be in the new format as the new editor can only save in the new format.

F12 will start the playtest mode so you you can test your levels and make a solution replay (hotkey U inside the player).

I don't currently have access to my files for the two Precarious Construction levels, but if you can provide the raw level files, I will attempt to convert them and re-solve them.

I attached the 2 levels in the old format.

Replays and level files seem to be ok, but it seems you made a mistake in terms of styles and music.

The music folder only contains a terrain folder with various special graphics and the styles folder also just a terrain folder with 1 png.

Here are the updated levels.  The conversion wasn't perfect because some of the pieces seemed to move around by a few units - I tried my best to correct them, but there may be some minor graphical differences.  Still, the solutions work as attached.

Music can be changed if necessary.

Here's a fixed version. I also included the ex-Lemmings Plus levels - I decided that, since NL is probably pretty stable for now, I may as well throw all of them in, aside from those that were repeat versions of levels that are still in LP.

(The exception is "Plentiful Plans", which I did make a viable non-gimmick version of, but decided not to include here as I made a very similar level in LPVI.)

Aside from removing music and adding the proper author tag where applicable (the only level that should have specific music listed is the VGASPEC-type one), the only level in here that's changed from my first upload is Crystal Light, where I reduced the lemming count from 100 to 40.

Here's another spare level. Not a particularly hard one, but might make for a nice puzzle for an early rank.

So then, I thought I might look over my levels here. It turns out that only two out of my four are still possible under NeoLemmix, both being OhNo remakes, and the rest may need to be dumped into this thread (https://www.lemmingsforums.net/index.php?topic=2949.msg60775#msg60775). Both levels and solutions attached.

Even if Minim posted minutes before my post here was finished I think this still holds true ;):

As resubmitting levels seems to be not very popular amoung the former contributers to say the least, I've got another plan. ;)

How about I take what I have gathered right now and go on a journey through all of the level design contests and LOTY final phases and make a nice best-of list (like top ~4-6 for each event). Then I will order the list by creators and contact the people directly via pm to submit the levels+replays. If I get no reply at all I will count this as "I don't want my levels to be submitted".

After I gathered the most popular levels I think a good baseline for a pack has been created. Of course this process will take a bit as I am also involved in other things here. Furthermore I am happy for any additional submissions/resubmissions in the meantime. :)

I've gone ahead and converted Test Chamber. I also plan on eventually converting Lem-17 Bomber and One Way Rock.

As for the other two levels, I have no plans of updating them at this time. However, if you still want them, go ahead and PM me and I'll send updated versions + replays for them.

Hi IchoTolot!

Recently I have made some levels for Neolemmix. All of these are in the ''Levels by Turrican'' thread , except for one (Reachable Heights) , that I have posted it in the "Random level sharing topic".

I won't make any level pack, so you can use whatever of these levels you want in the Community pack.

You can also do any changes you want to my levels , if you think they are needed for their versions for the community pack. (I can give you for example some suggestions for improvements in the ''Shadows in the Sky'' level. )

Also you can use any of the music tracks , I have used for my levels in the Community pack if you want (Any of these you like!)
. You can also check some additional suggestions, that I have made in the '' Recommendations for level music'' thread.

But if I can have a personal wishlist here , can you use the track , that I have used in the ''FC Lems screwed by the refs'' level , in the Community pack ? ( please! )

Thanks for offering your levels!

I planned to take a look at your levels anyway after I finished the next update to the intro pack.

So here is what I will do: After I played through your levels I will give you some feedback and then after some possible fixes I will throw the best onto the community pack level pile.

Just be a little patient here as I still need to work on a few things in the intro pack. ;)

In terms of music: I will not promise anything here, as that will be up for debate when everything comes finally together. Also, I will see that we don't have like 80 music tracks in here. But, I can keep the track in mind for the final track list.

In terms of the state of the community pack as it got a bit quiet in here:
This is not abandoned, but we need to gather some levels first before we can make any more detailed plans. I noticed that I need to update the list here as there have been some resubmissions I haven't updated here yet. Will do that over the weekend.

I have gathered around 65 levels so far, most of them were resubmissions. Future planned steps after I finished the majority of the work on the intro pack:

- Excavate the last few contests and ask around if I can include some of the winners/runner ups there.
- Take a look at the levels we have right now and evaluate if they are indeed well made. Most of them should be anyway as they were contest entries if not winners/runner ups. But there are a few pretty unkown to me and I at least want to know what I am including here. ;)  I won't be very strict, but let's say they should be at least of decent quality.

If I get close to around 100 levels we can start and sort the levels very ROUGHLY into difficulty groups and see which type of levels we still lack (+ also discuss the final pack and rank size). Then we can specifically fill in those lacking areas.

This is a collaborative  level between myself WillLem and Proxima where we built the level in turn 5 mins each then when we agreed on the terrain we all decided on skillsets and intended solution so its the same level 3 times with 3 different intended solutions

I want to rework my former levels, and also submit new ones, but first I'd like to release a small pack (10 levels, 5 of them completed) with all of them in all the possible formats: Lemmix, SuperLemmini, and NeoLemmix (of course, it will only have the original 8 tasks). If the new NeoLemmix Community Pack is imminent, I can post here the levels I have completed.

A level I made the other day. It started as a "shitpost in level form" but actually managed to stump a couple of people, so it may be worthy of inclusion here.

Here's my replay for the bee level. I didn't think it was that hard, but I can see why it can be hard, though. My solution almost fails and I have a spare builder. Let's just say that my entire solution was practically all self-inflicted pixel precision, especially with both miners.

Basically it is still in gathering phase and I plan to make a roughly sorted dummy pack from what I've got soon this year. Probably when I take a longer time off.

Remember: An entry will only be valid with a replay. I don't know/remember every solution, but the pack should still be certified solvable.

I haven't found any clear instructions.  I figured out how to convert an ini to a lvl, and then to NXP... but even that wasn't the right format.

WELL  I am 6 levels in so far and I got to say I have mixed feelings 1 i like aesthetically but its a bit too long

2,3,4 and 5 I like they are good levels that get that balance between easy and interesting

level 6 oh boy visually it is a beautiful piece of art kudos for that BUT i had to play it in cpm because you cant tell what is terrain and what is background when some of the terrain is black  also unless I missed a trick which is entirely possible its everything Ive seen people criticise other levels  for in terms of a buildery fest which is fine if its the only one which it could well be

level 7 im already stuck so Im not sure if the rank difficulties will match what I think easy should be.

Normally I don't criticise packs other than saying if its too difficult for me which isnt really a criticism more a personal preference but I do think the easy rank in a community pack should be objectively easy

8 is a really good puzzle but def not easy imho

Little update:

- The zip now has the standard levels/Pack structure inside so that you can simply unzip it in the main NL folder.

- 2 updates regarding 2 of Turrican's levels: "Outside the Control Room" and "Dockside warehouse"

For mantha's feedback:

Quote
level 7 im already stuck so Im not sure if the rank difficulties will match what I think easy should be.
...
figured out 7
8 is a really good puzzle but def not easy imho

The pack will 100% not match the definition of "easy" for most people. It is nearly impossible to hit that.

But, as you can see rank 1 has not that many entries yet and I admit that the majority of the entries hit what I would call the "second half" of the first rank where the levels have gotten a bit more difficult already.

Therefore I look forward to more rank 1 entries for the "first half" where things should be quite simple for the vast majority of players! ;)

The fact that in the same hour after the stuck post you posted that you figured it out would confirm to me that around "midpoint" to "second half" of the first rank would be an acceptableplacement for example. At least roughly and of course difficulty arrangements are also totally up to debate. I think we should first fill in the rank a bit more though.

Also, for the very first few levels in rank 1, I plan to take the visual aspect heavily into account as the first few levels should be looking quite nicely.

also unless I missed a trick which is entirely possible its everything Ive seen people criticise other levels  for in terms of a buildery fest which is fine if its the only one which it could well be

I personally would be willing to have some selected builder-heavy levels in the first rank as it can be a good training. But definitly not many! Also the ones we have should be at least somewhat interesting and visually pleasing.

This can be up to debate though!

It was suggested to have more ranks overall.

I would be for that and currently a split up could be done in the middle section of the pack as we have quite a few entries already in that region.

A split would be most beneficial in the easy part of the pack between rank 1 and 2 to have more easy levels that nearly everybody can solve. For that more easy entries are required first though.

So with more entries I could soon increase the rank ammount to 6, 7, or even 8. But first: Send me more stuff! Especially quality content for rank 1!

I've skipped about a bit through this (mainly due to lack of familiarity with some of the newer skills) as I've been playing but have been enjoying the levels I have attempted/solved so far  & I will certainly be trying to get a solution for them all eventually. I might see if I can put something relatively easy together for an earlier ranked level over the weekend.

If you post solution replays:

It may be a good idea to save the replays by "level name" and not by "rank + position" as it will change frequently!

Feel free to use these for the first rank :lemcat:

Walk The Plank can be made a tad easier by making it 3 or 4 of each instead of 2 of each, but 2 is still very doable. The solution included here is just one of a few possible alternatives.

Nice and easy levels  These levels well fit for 1st rank.
I'm afraid I backrouted Mantha16's level(snow way to talk) and WillLem's level(Walk The Plank) though.
I think they are somewhat open-ended levels but these solutions are way too simple. :P

So i spent a fair bit of time creating a sketch for the terrain that didn't look bad when imported into the editor - then did a simple puzzle afterwards (but still very possible to fail) - there are quite a few orders of operations that work. Hopefully this isn't too laggy as it i did kinda spam in a few places rather than work out a more optimal way to make the shapes...

The puzzle is solvable saving 8 lemmings fairly easily too in a few different ways, so could either be changed to require that or make it an easy talisman.

Edit: Also attached a 2nd version which maybe looks a bit cleaner by removing the inner detail from the gusts of wind - the replay works on both. I might end up re-visiting this again to try and include more of the terrain in the solution path.

Here are the levels you requested like 2 years ago! I added a few easy levels as well if you need them. One is from Lemmings Stampede that seems to be well liked and a new one I made when I saw you needed some easy levels.

Hello there! I reworked and released last year, in my first levelpack, the levels I posted some time ago in the former NeoLemmix Community Pack Topic. But I still have three levels that didn't make the final cut. Since they require some stage improvements, I am not going to publish them yet. They were intented to be played on Lemmix, but I think they could be somewhat fun and easy enough to be included in the easiest pack(s) of this NeoLemmix project. Of course, I will also release their Lemmix and SuperLemmini versions.

Just give me a few days to retouch the levels. Meanwhile, here are the working titles:

-Down To The Bone
-Black Lungs
-Orpheus Had Eurydice

They are in Lemmix format.

It is still possible to load and convert them to NeoLemmix format with the new version of NeoLemmix editor?

Not in the new editor, but older editor version could load an .lvl file and save it to .nxlv. (look around on neolemmix.com all versions should be archived there)

Then you can cleanse the new .nxlv level in the up-to-date player in the level select menu and the output should be compatible with the new editor.

Fixes for some of my levels. There are still others with known backroutes.

The two that don't have a replay attached here, my existing replay still works.

A fix for Armani's backroute. Simply adds more lemmings to the level.

The ending now requires a bit more thought/timing as well, which is a nice bonus. This may work better as a 3-of-everything to make it easier, but it could be left as-is if people don't think it's too difficult as a 2-of-everything.

I have had a go at reworking the puzzle in my previous submission and have a somewhat trickier puzzle this time that still shouldn't be too hard (though maybe a bit too tricky for the start of the 1st rank at least) - So feel free to use either submissions depending on what difficulty is needed - all things being equal i think this one has a nicer puzzle.

I released an update! Please check if your updated/new level is included as I won't rule out that I missed something!

Also, be sure to get the recent style update from the NL site!

Changes I myself made on levels:

- Moved "Crystal_Light" later in the rank.

- Mantha's new entry "snow way to talk" replay was not functional after the update + exit was stuck inside terrain. Fixed the replay and moved exit by 1 pixel.

- NieSch' level "Signs_to_Guide_You" had a not functional replay after the update. Fixed it by moving 1 skill assignment a pixel more to the left.

- Turrican's new entry "Butterfly Islands" had a decorational object that really looked like a trap directly in the solution's path. I removed that one.

I also attached a solution to mantha's builderfest level "cosmic contraption" that could maybe be a slight backroute. Leaving it in could help making the level more accessible though and more likely to stay at an early position in the rank. I personally would let the alternative solution stay in.

Also, please chack after updating if your solution replay still works and if not fix it and post it here together with the update!

Put up a little update to include mantha's fix and put the level in the late stages of the rank as it is quite a bit more difficult now. :)

I noticed you put my level 'Heroes to the Rescue' in rank 2. I think it's more a rank 4 level. (And certainly more difficult than my other two levels in rank 2 now.) Of course, it can be very personal what is being perceived as difficult, so I understand it's hard to determine what goes where.

At this point I would like to hear more voices on this.

From my point of view I really don't see the solution as that difficult. I can at max see this late rank 2 or early rank 3, but definitly not rank 4.

Then I let it be for now and wait for more feedback from other people.

Again the current sortment of difficulty is still VERY ruough and serious swapping around levels will probably start when we got near the final shape of the pack. Then we can do the sorting more efficiently.

Updated the pack today. :)

5 new rank 1 levels added. :) 1 from Turrican and 4 from Ron Stard.

As Ron Stard's entries were converted old Lemmix levels some minor modifications were made:

- Culled empty space from 2 levels as the 1600 pixel width is not mandatory anymore. I only culled empty black space not decoration!
- Removed some unnnessesary timers.

Hi all!

We're here to offer up some levels to the Community Lemmings pack, featuring levels from our LemRunner pack.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/3ebeew0ffnkb6u1/LemRunnerCommunity.zip?dl=1

Included are all of the following levels (and their corresponding replays), made by myself and my brother, tan x dx:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

All of these levels use the LemRunner style packs, which can be found at https://www.lemmingsforums.net/index.php?topic=5535.0
(Make sure you have the most up to date version!)

All levels here are the same as they were in the LemRunner pack, with the exception of Riddle of the Ancients, Lem Ninja, and Pixel Imperfect. (These levels have been modified to remove their postview text, which would be out of context in the community pack; the actual solutions are unchanged).

Also included in the zip file are the ambient music tracks featured in LemRunner. However, I do not know whether or not the ambient background tracks would feel too out-of-place in the community pack - feel free to substitute in any musical tracks which you feel would work better. There's 10 tracks in total, however half could easily be removed since they're essentially variations of each other.

Released a little update with 3 updates to Turricans levels.

@92Dexter11:

I still need to sort in your LemRunner levels and that will probably happen with the next patch. I was a bit busy with contest stuff and creating levels in the meantime and I just got around now for this little update. ;P

Be assured that it will happen soon though (probably next weekend).

Bigger update! :)

- All recently submitted levels from tan x dx and 92Dexter11 included.

- Rank amount increased from 5 to 7. (Old rank 1+2 formed a new rank in between, Old rank 3+4 formed a new rank in between)

- Some slight position switches to smoothen the new rank transitions.

I can smell tons of backroutes so you might want to check them.

I made subfolders for every author so it's probably easy to find replays for your own levels.

I must admit I didn't expected the cliché solution for "Orpheus Had Eurydice". Well, I mean: it's a cliché for everyone who has played Mazulems before. For the novice players, it surely be a novelty. However, I didn't have that solution in mind, but another one, which is in fact harder to execute in Lemmix, the original engine for which it was designed. But I like your solution, of course. You can solve the level in two interesting ways, and your solution is also a valid and clever one. The rest of my levels have the intended solutions, only with slight variations from what I planned. Thanks for playing!
