Title: GigaLem's Blog and Reviews Thread.
Post by: GigaLem on January 14, 2018, 11:19:43 PM
I've decided to do something new with myself for this year on the forums and that's a "Blog and Review" thread.
where I do the following....
-Talk about life
-Talk about experiences
-Review games
-Review movies
-Rant
-Point out my problems using programs

Now I might write most of these in google docs or text files but yeah it should be something worth a read.

The first thing I'll need to put together is
"Why I Don't Like Lix's Level editor"
and I'm gonna need a lot of time for that one because I wanna get all my points across.

but yeah enjoy

Really looking forward to this. The editor's UI design is 11 years old and hasn't changed much. It's bound to suck in a couple places.

Make several smaller rants if the entire thing is too daunting to write.

Now that Neolemmix new format is Finally Stable, I devised a checklist of things to do before migrating

-Release Post-Holiday GigaLems 2017
-Redesign Purple and Desert for Lemmings Discovery (which I'll move to the new format for developement on Vol.1)
-Make the Labyrinth Tileset using the stuff flopsy gave me
-Finish Launch base conversion
-Finish Wafflem's unfinished freedom planet levels and send them to Nessy for porting to the new format

Anything finished will be marked with Green
Anything Cancelled in marked with Red

as for other things, I know once finished with "Post-Holiday GigaLems 2017" (which I didn't) I'll begin work on my little (or not) Rant on lix so aside from that, Cheers!

Nice GigaLem, you've always been a good ranter.

This reminds me of "You Know What Really Grinds My Gears" from Family Guy :P

Looking forward to seeing the Labyrinth Zone Tileset as well :)

I think It'd better to talk about the editor in another thread (https://www.lemmingsforums.net/index.php?topic=3813.msg70406#msg70406) if im honest.

Also I think I know what my next rant should be "Splatoon 2's Single Player"

Since I have OBS, and that I can record with it Test footage right here (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1o3v5XcyOM0tJChOLiIWXuvFLF1-x3dxU/view?usp=sharing)
I'm gonna be recording some playthroughs for the commentary group "Melting Pot Comms"
My priority is Megaman 1-6 but I do want to cover Shovel Knight as well. I have no access to editing software at the moment so I'll have someone be editing the stuff for me.
I'm gonna try recording Megaman within the next week or two.

As was discussed in another topic, you can get Vegas Edit Pro 14 very cheap ($20 USD, and you get a whole bunch of other programs too) via Humble Bundle at the moment. I've bought it but haven't tried it out yet; it's still available for a few more days.

If I go from semi-absent to Mostly Absent for a bit. that's because a friend of mine has received some grim news.
His mother is going to pass away due to her cancer. If you have any condolences to sent I'll pass them on to him. This came as a shock to me because I've been there before.

It seems your having a very bad year. Very sorry to hear these things; death is not an easy thing to deal with. Just remember: it's perfectly okay to feel bad and to cry. Sometimes, we even tend to think or do things that seem very bizarre or rude or bad when grieving. We understand. It will pass, as long we face it and don't try to suppress these things.
We can best honor the memory our loved ones by doing the things they would be proud of, and never forgetting them or the impact they had.

Motivation has been like a rollar coaster lately so I'm gonna take a little break from level designing.
I'll try to do other things that catch my interest like recording and clearing my backlog and what not.
However you still free to check in on me when It comes to my projects. I still know that Nessy is still converting my Millas levels. and I'm still awaiting levels.

until then I want to get whatever out of the way. Like E3 and such.

Try access through a dedicated IRC program. Webchat can be buggy sometimes.

I've made good experiences with Nettalk and Hexchat for example. :)

Just connect to Quakenet in the program and add

$join #neolemmix
$join #lix
/join #neolemmix
/join #lix

to the commands --> then the program should autoconnect to the channels on start. At least it works for me. ;P

Now with Grapple Force Rena complete, I'll be doing a few things before getting to the extra parts or Let's Play #2

First, I'll need to give a state of the pack 2019 for Millas. In which I will go over what I was able to accomplish, what didn't work out, what didn't work out, what I want to improve and what want to do for 2019.

Second, I'll be working on restoring the missing Master System sets from L++ to their former glory. Marble is already finished, Fire is in progress.

Third, I'll need to finish uploading Bemani Planet with the exclusive stages and cutscenes. Well ones with exclusive themes.

Forth,I need to decide what my next Let's Play will be and I'm currently stumpted on which.

Thanks for the suggestion Proxima

Here are each of the choices
(https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/31PI2e-3TiL.jpg)
Choice #1 - This is a breakout clone by reflexive entertainment (now defunct) this does have all the bells and whistles and then some. Power ups, different worlds, and new shapes for blocks. Overall a fun game that spanned 3 1/2 entries.

Choice #2 - A tower defense classic, this game saw many ports (Including Nintendo DS) and a sequel that really needs a PC release IMHO.

Choice #3 - If you remember Marble Blaster or Marble Blast Gold and other entries, this game is essentially a spiritual successor. The initial play through will be short for this. But I will want to revisit this one for any extra stuff from time to time.

Choice #4 - Insaniquarium Deluxe is a game where you take care of your fish, raise money to buy a new egg, all the while stopping the occasional monster from eating all of your fish. I will ask how to handle this lets play if this wins the popular vote. Like how many stages per part.

Now for the honorable mentions
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'll decide once my master system sets or Bemani Planet stuff is finished.

Needless to say, CTR has kept me quite busy....among other things. But saving that for a state of the channel kind of deal.
But today according to the clock on the Lemmings forum, is the tenth anniversary of my registration on the forums
(https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/219633993522348032/600484966136021012/tenwholeyears.png)

And god was I an idiot ten years ago, then again considering I was a child essentially back then I was bound to mature the hard way and I'm glad I've evolved since then.
I wanted to begin recording Shovel knight today but got pulled away again. But hopefully I can get to work on other stuff soon. I couldn't think of a level for this in time for this occasion. I wouldn't how to design one to celebrate my time on the forum. I don't have the words to explain evolving level design over time. You'd just need to see what works and tweak it from there I guess.

I'm still stuck on what to LP after Shovel Knight, Plants Vs Zombies will resume in the fall because I still got Lemmings and SRB2Kart stuff to work on. For LP#4 I might leave it up to vote again however, no poll for LP#4 until Shovel Knight is finished

The finale to Shovel Knight just went up.

Now I can focus on resuming Plants vs Zombies

Lately I've been trying to update to 12.6 and so far its going steadily. not ready yet but I will be soon ;)

Also While doing a poll I'll be doing a special kind of State of the channel, one where I practice a level for commentary I need to edit the raws for, While playing Crash Bandicoot with Stormy Ascent modded back in, I'll be going over my choices for LP#4. Now I haven't decided all the games for LP#4's poll but All will be revealed when the video goes up.

I'll try beginning production on PvZ's bonus content around September.

With that said I hope you've enjoyed Shovel Knight:Shovel of hope, right now I don't know when I'll be doing Specter of Torment, but regardless It was a fun LP. Until then, see ya for the next one.

Title: I've been a bit silent
Post by: GigaLem on November 02, 2019, 04:59:26 AM
I need to get this off my chest, I decided not to post this in the Millas topic because I don't want people to think that the project is cancelled. It's not but I'm going through a rough patch atm and the discussions in the forums are not helping one bit.

I've been a bit silent on this forum probably a while and while I have spoke in the LF discord. I haven't been able to bring myself to talk in the forums with any of the topics because I feel too afraid to. I haven't been as vocal as I want to be with Millas is because I've been very unmovitaded. I dislike having to worry about quite bunch of change so soon even if its experimental its still a daunting task. I do have someone whose willing to help me out. but I have to bring myself to work on the migrating, and migrating from version to version is already an exhausting task and I don't want making stuff for neolemmix to feel like work. I hate all these discussion threads because it makes me think that I have to jump a thousand hurdles in a row and I can't slack off about it. It's almost bringing me to tears. The past week hasn't been fun for me. I feel like I haven't gotten anything done and no matter how much I want to touch neolemmix I worry about touching it too soon. and on top of wanting to do the holiday project I worry about getting ridiculed and because of how my mind works I don't take that as well as one would hope. It could be me second guessing myself but I get nervous about feedback and such because I'm worry it'll come out as a nasty bite with no way of teaching me to improve and it puts me into a indecisive hell. I've never felt like this until now but I'm literally lost. I know I have things to do but, I don't like doing them if I feel pressured about it. I hate working under pressure. And every new update makes me feel pressured. I feel like I leave my guard down too much and I feel under prepared or someone is gonna yell at me for it. I don't know what decision to make now because how unmotivated and afraid I feel. :'(

If anything is gonna get done soon, I'm probably gonna be more silent this month trying to migrate yet again if the next version were to go by, I worry November is gonna be hell.

If there's some good news, I have each of the Raws ready for the QnA video I'll be doing soon and I finally be able to accept Ko-fi payments here (https://ko-fi.com/gigalem)

Hi Gigalem

Real life can be stressful at the best of times don't want the lemmings part to be stressful as well. It can feel a bit stressful the updates but maybe its the whole thing of moving forward very quick, I feel life is like that in general, think how fast windows 10 came out. The new technology and the speed things go at in relation to keeping on top of things. Try to take a relax approach to the whole thing, try to treat it as fun instead of a chore. I hear you make a lot of good content, I think we can make the greatest content when we are having fun doing it, yes I admit a lot of work does get put into things and we do have to have the motivation to go for things.

If you feel you need a break I know you might hear people say that a lot but it can be one of the best things we do as we take that break we get re-motivated and great things can come from that. Overloading ourselves is not the answer, what I mean is setting ourselves very unrealistic goals not only does it cause us massive stress but its not very good for our mental health.

I have a mental health condition myself and I notice I tend to do a lot better when less stress is applied to the project. Sometimes the job we have usually means we might have to work a lot of hours and I don't think we humans are designed for long hours.  I feel you have set yourself a lot of different goals but now this is not necessary a bad thing I must stress that point, I usually have a lot of ideas myself in things I want to do in life, I'm currently writing a story script about mental illness hoping to get it noticed in someway or another in the future.

We are living in a time where technology is moving very fast, It didn't feel like that a long time ago but it sure does now.

Buy Gigalem a coffee I like that. :) :)  Good on you Gigalem.

I should really update this topic more often but my activity has been rather quiet lately, I'm more or less taking a bit of a hiatus due to lack of motivation for Levels and such. Given certain events I refuse to bring up here because I don't find it to the be the place for it. I found it hard to create any levels period, the drive I had for making a level is missing and I don't know how long it'll be till I feel like making levels again. I tried making a contest level again but my mind wasn't feeling it, I could push myself to make a real winner and its most likely why I haven't bothered working on the 2018-2019 festival millas fixes yet, I need my mind to be in the right place for it and I deeply apologize for not getting to it right away. So I'll probably be doing things to take my mind off of things until feel that creative drive once more and such. I hope you understand.

PS:If there's any good news I could share, work on the Avian Museum Set is being done.

Apologies on the double post but I wanted to post an update to the poll. The straw poll I used initially broke, so I had to find another option, I have updated the link to the one you now see above you, please vote through there instead. Thank you!

I didn't want to make this my 1400th post here, but I received bad news this morning, and of course this had to happen after my birthday as well. so for the third year in the row something wants to crush my soul into dust.

First I will confirm what may happen for sure later once my mom gets an answer from our current landlord

Not even two years into living in this tiny home and already the home's owner wanted to sell the place and lied about my family not paying the rent, My mom even stated that she payed a lot more this month and had to talk to the landlord about it, the landlord will have a stern talk with the owner but in case I have to move again well they're at least gonna try to help us if my mom was asked "how many bedrooms" was something to go by.

This year hasn't been very fun so far for me, having to deal with family issues and not being able to get to stuff I honestly need to finish. I wanted to resume Millas after my 13th Let's play was fully edited and such. I'm still editing Plague of Shadows at the time of this video currently at part 11, and on top of that I was gonna make an update video after editing my Kirby first impression video (which weirdly enough will likely come out after I have the game) but combo that with the uncertainty of moving again and all the stress and issues with the family. and getting self conscious about myself, my personal life outside the forums, and worrying about making or have made mistakes that have made people hate me and wishing to make amends. I'm not exactly in the best state of mind to be able to work on the things I want to do because I can't have another move happen again and so soon, not again.

Why does it feel like every time I wanted to finish Millas something has to get in the way? I wanted to a longer break from recording so I can dedicate a month to working on actually finishing Millas, but my passion gets stripped away from me because of something I can't predict and/or control.

Again, I'll confirm if I have to move or not, but this will be affecting my mood to create and I don't like it. I'm sorry if I so silent about things, im caught in the miasma horrid luck and in the middle of winter too.
