Title: Other Games
Post by: G3K on July 11, 2004, 03:36:27 PM
Thought I may as well bring this one back.

Anyway, my games just now are...

Ikaruga [DC] - Extremely kickass top-down space shooter. Graphics are some of the best I've ever seen.
Sonic Advance 3 [GBA] - Team-based Sonic game; similar to Knuckles Chaotix for the 32x, except a lot better.
Phantasy Star 4 : End Of The Millenium [Megadrive] - Sega's premier RPG series.
Black and White [PC] - Pick a creature. Wreak havoc on villagers. Repeat.
Mega Man X [SNES] - Generic platform goodness from Capcom, nice soundtrack.
Bomberman [SNES, Megadrive, PC-Engine] - The premise is the same for all platforms; blow stuff up and feel good about it.
Gradius [PC-Engine] - Old but nifty top-down space shooter.
Sonic Adventure 2 [NGC] - "SONIC! STOP FALLING OFF THE DAMN GRIND RAILS! *#&#!" 3D action-adventure game with Sonic characters, crap physics engine. Otherwise enjoyable.
Zelda : The Wind Waker [NGC] - Needs no introduction. I think my copy has a bug, though >=/

I'm currently playing Black and White, too.
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Lemika on July 11, 2004, 05:17:29 PM
Right now I'm playing -

Icewind Dale (I, this time); Baldur's Gate I; Baldur's Gate II; Unreal Tournament 2004; Syberia; and all the usual stuff (Magic Online, Commander Keen (all), Duke Nukem (I & II), Hocus Pocus, Mystic Towers, Zork Zero: The Revenge of Megabozz, other Zork games, of course Lemmings, Lemmings 3d, The Adventures of Lomax, Lemmings 2: The Tribes, Oh no! More Lemmings!, and... Populous: The Beginning.)

It's all good :P

I've been considering buying UT2K4; I'm completely skint at the moment, though, so that'll have to wait, along with this Dreamcast I've been promising myself lately. Whilst they're okay, emulators don't cut it =P

All you need is "the ultimate gamepad" (which i don't have)! So I have the same problem.

Hey! I have Black & White too! :D

I have on my computer:

Of course, it doesn't mean that I play them all everyday. I didn't play some of them for a long time ago!

Uhh... what the hell? "Kickbum" doesn't have quite the same ring to it XD
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: namida on July 11, 2004, 11:47:23 PM
Couldn't even begin to say. But I'll list some of my favourites:

Final Fantasy X [PS2] - Frucking awesome game. Sphere Grid rules. The only thing more fun than using the Sphere Grid to power up your characters(as far as I've found), is playing the game without touching the Sphere Grid! (it's possible - my next target is Seymour Flux)

Final Fantasy Legend [GB] - Again, I'm going for a challenge. A much more restrictive challenge. No increasing stats - this means you can't use stat potions, eat monster meat, or pretty much use mutants AT ALL - the exception, you can increase stats by equipping armour. Also, you can't use "Saw" or "Hyper".

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City [PS2] - Nope, I'm not trying any specific challenge on this one. Just playing it.

Lemmings [PC] - Obviously. Nothing needs to be said about this frucking awesome game.

Sonic Heroes (GCN)
RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 (PC)
Lemmings (PC, Mac, GBC)
SimCity 4 (PC)
Mario Kart 64 (N64)
Mario Kart Double Dash (GCN)
Soinc Battle (GBA)
The Hobbit (PC)
Megaman 64 (N64)

I could write down LOTS more...

I do! I'm kinda stuck on the Skaarj mothership in single-player. It's the last one on the ladder for me. Those kinds of levels are not my strong point, I'm afraid.

Or did you mean other than me? :P

Sounds like a good idea. I could probably manage to rope Lemeri into it, too, if you wanted.

Maybe tomorrow? I don't have that much time today.

Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Lemika on July 14, 2004, 06:06:52 PM
Yeah, I know... it's that whole firewall/no firewall profile deal. I usually use the one that goes through the firewall, so I can't use YIM, I can't play games online, etcetera...
So I just have to try to remember to use the other profile sometime.
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Andi on July 14, 2004, 07:58:01 PM
Somewhere in the settings you can make settings for a firewall. Tried that?
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Lemika on July 15, 2004, 06:47:49 PM
Umm... no. Actually I can't. See, basically, my mom makes us go through a firewall - which is a whole different computer - normally. It's a fairly tight firewall, too. So I have to have a seperate profile for online games and such (YIM and things like that, too) where I have a whole nother network card and it connects directly to the outside world.

The was a fun game, by the way :P

Lem'ka, Lemeri and Me had today an UT match. The results:

Round 1 (http://people.freenet.de/lemmings/misc/UT/UT01-15-Juli-04.JPG)
Round 2 (http://people.freenet.de/lemmings/misc/UT/UT02-15-Juli-04.JPG)

I am Evil Lemming, Lem'ka is Dakatha and Lemeri is Exediron. ( I hope that's right. :P )

Oh, and I figured out, why my ping was so high. I had eMule active. :sorry:
Will there be a next time? (Hopefully with a better ping! ;))
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Lemika on July 15, 2004, 07:28:37 PM
Sure, that was a fun game :D

You got all the names right, yeah. And as to my score... um... what can I say? I went bowling? O_O
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Lemeri on July 17, 2004, 07:39:39 PM
I player pretty much all the ones Lem'ka already said. I'm stuck on fighting that ******* Malcolm, on HyperBlast 2.

EDIT:
Oh and, my outside profile isn't working right now, so if you (Andi) are on when I get it working, I'll talk to you about another match then?

EDIT 2:
I beat Malcolm.

Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Lemeri on July 19, 2004, 07:38:38 PM
I fought him again along with Lem'ka. They where on a team. The teams scores where:

Them 40 (winners)
Me: 3 (loser)
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Lemika on July 19, 2004, 07:48:44 PM
I did 19 of that and El-_-Tono did 21 of it. It was a fun game. I really should remember to come up in this profile more often :D
Title: Re: Other Games

Lem'ka 10 (winner)
Me 3 (loser)

I'm playing the longest game of the world! Well, that's I guess!

In the game Captive from Mindscape, someone said that there's about 65536 levels divided in missions, where 1 mission is 11 levels. If I can do 10 missions in one year, then I need more than 595 years to complete the game!  O_O
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Louise on July 23, 2004, 11:27:12 PM
I have AOE, but haven't played it in a long time so am probably very rusty.

I recently got Morrowind! Has anyone heard of it? It's not as good as the reviews make it out to be, IMO, but then I've been wanting to get it for ages so it's probably just anticlimax syndrome. It's still not a bad game.
Title: Re: Other Games

I sure haven't.
Title: Re: Other Games

Two new additions...

Final Fantasy : Mystic Quest [SNES] - RPG, funnily enough.
Tempest 2000 [Jaguar] - Classy Tempest game on the first 64-bit console.
Title: Re: Other Games

Can someone help me with finding out how the MAtch up AOE service works?  I tried that stupid Zone thing, but it was a piece of worthless junk.

Oh, also, I just got Donkey Kong Country for SNES (Yaaaeeeee!!!) and Starfox SNES, although I wish I had Starfox 64...........*sigh* :-(
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: G3K on July 25, 2004, 01:03:16 AM
You can download SF64 and an emulator from KaZaA and similar programs.
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Timballisto on July 25, 2004, 01:04:08 AM
Sweet: only isn't Kazaa illegal?

Besides, SF64 just simply wouldn't be the same on an emu.  I remember actually playing it on 64, a long time ago.  The joystick felt like it was part of your body with it's smooth up and down and sensitive flight path adjustments.  The controller felt like it belonged in your hands.
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: G3K on July 25, 2004, 01:16:40 AM
It depends what you use it for... if you download things which you already legally own (say, for example, I downloaded a track from a CD which I'd previously bought) it's perfectly legal.

However, if you're just downloading Starfox64, it should be okay regardless of whether you own the game or not, since Nintendo aren't actually making any money from that particular game anymore.
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Andi on July 25, 2004, 09:54:47 AM
I can remember reading on an emu-page, Nintendo made the owner close the site, because ofe the roms.

Jetpack? Yeah, I played that non-stop ages ago... and I NEVER got past level one :D

Anyway, another game to add...

Parodius [SNES] - Think Gradius, except with an enhanced "WTF" factor.
Title: Re: Other Games

Another game with WTF-factor is "Postal 2". But you need REALLY BLACK HUMOR to play it.

By the way Andi (if you know the answer to this), how do you get to fight ClanLord? I've got Xan and Malcolm for avatars, but it never sends ClanLord after me, except after I beat the game. I used to think you just had to lose a lot, and it assigns ClanLord to you if you do badly, but that didn't work, so I've tried losing to Xan a lot, and so far that hasn't worked yet either.

Yeah JetPack. If I remember, it's a platform game where you have to build your ship by collecting the pieces and bring them on the launch site. Then, take 5 or 6 Fuel packs and bring them to your ship. It's this game you're talking about right? I played it on my old Atari ST.

Well... it's not only a dragon game, you can also fight enemies on the ground with Caim, a human hero. The start of the story is like DragonHeart when they exchanged their hearts together. I enjoy! ;P

I can't ride a horse, nor can I make one come to me by playing a song on an occarina. &#A0;I can't lift a giant sword two times my size (probably maybe not even with two hands). &#A0;I can't use a boomerang that accurately....etc.

I beat Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King for Gamecube in one day. &#A0;Great effects, but a lot less skill is required to beat the game compared to LOTR:TTT. &#A0;I mean, you could almost just press "A" the whole game, and still win. &#A0;It's really easy. &#A0;The only exceptions are Minas Tirith walltop and the last level, maybe the second to last level.

Ver, very long list. I have that many games, I'm not sure whether this list is anywhere near complete. If it is, at least to people carrying very large bags must have raided the drawers of the computer desk without me noticing last night. All for computer unless I say otherwise:

Lemmings(of course)
Lemmings Paintball
Adventures of Lomax*demo*
Black & White
Petz: DogzII, Petz3, Petz4, Petz5
Simcity 2000 & 3000(UK edition)
God knows how many downloaded demos

******. Can't remember any other computer ones right now.

I also have a GBA sp with most of the Pokemon games. Nintendo should really make a Pokemon game for computer.

And last, and definitely least played, my gamecube games:

Super Mario Sunshine
Pikmin2

I just recently played Stronghold 2, which I believe is made in the UK.  Top class game, very well done I say.  I like it a lot.  The only bad part is when it gets laggy.  If you have a good computer though, nothing should be wrong.  Right now, I own the other two strongholds.  Could anyone possibly tell me the best price you've seen for this game?  Thanks.

The difference is UK has some buildings from the UK as well as from a couple of other places, while the normal Simcity doesn't.

Also, why the heck would guilds go to war with each other?
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Shvegait on May 29, 2005, 08:48:03 PM
It's an online action "RPG"-type game basically, similar in some ways to Diablo II, Dungeon Siege, and Phantasy Star Online. But it has a much higher emphasis on (and is much more balanced for) Player vs. Player events, such as arenas (4v4) and large tournaments (6 teams of 8 ). &#A0;A lot of people draw comparisons to MMORPGs like World of Warcraft and Everquest, but this is not the type of game that it is.

And they're not trade guilds, they're like... warring guilds :P

I got all the levels off of that site.  Hey, does your computer list your levels like this (in this kind of order)?

10
11
1
2
3
4
5
6
7
8
9

etc...

Oh, and I'm not done with the pack of levels yet.  If I can remember correctly, yours has a storyline right?

One last thing, I made one (1) level here (http://www.geocities.com/piainp/ISU002.zip). It's called Isu002 but it's my only level. (In fact, it's an update on Isu001, which isn't worth your time.)

Lol.  I'll have to try it out sometime.  Actually all of the numerical sorting devices on my computer seem fairly messed up.  I think that a worm that I used to have on there at one time ate the file that allowed for correct numerical sorting.  This is a pain, as I can't play my levels continuosly and normally in custom mode.  Instead I have to load them all individually and play them.  Oh well.  They are fun anyhow.
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Andi on June 21, 2005, 11:01:48 AM
The sorting is correct. Computers sort numbers like letters.

Means:
A
AA
AAB
AZ

Is the same as
1
11
112
19

I hope you understand what I mean.

To correct this you'd have to use
01
02
03
04
05
06
07
08
09
10
11
12
...

I got Stronghold 2 for my birthday.  I played it at a friend's house before so I know it's a good game.  If you look on the flip open thingy  on the box, you'll notice that red is going to ultimately lose the battle unless they are somehow hiding a huge number of troops!  It's a pretty cool looking battle nontheless.

This is another game I can't play at my mom's house as my mom won't let me use the computers with XP.  Darn.  Oh well.

Can't wait to try it out (I'm at my mom's for awhile).

I just found something very weird in Ocarina of Time, and apparently no one else has found it before, atleast no one who puts things on the internet.

As adult Link, go up to Zora's fountain, and then swim over to where the entrance to the fairy fountain is.  There should be a gray rock.  If you have the silver gauntlets or the golden gauntlets, you can lift it and throw it away.  Underneath that is another rock that you can blow up and is embedded in the ground mostly.  If you blow it up, it reveals a secret passage full of invisible (can be seen with lense of truth) skulltulas.  After the skulltulas is a ladder, and that, leads to a place way up on the mountain.  Can anybody tell me why this is here???

I just beat Burger Time Deluxe for gameboy (finally after about...um...12, 13 years?).  Good game.  There's a versus mode on there but I have no idea how it works.  I wish I could play it against someone, but finding someone else with the game would probably be like finding someone else who plays Tzar: Burden of the Crown.

On The OOT thing, no, there is no gold skulltula in there, and why in the world they would make something like that to house one little skulltula, I don't know.  Something's there I'm not seeing, or it's something else they decided to stop working on midway or something.  I wonder if that room's in the game cube version...

I bought Mario Kart DS when it came out and after playing it I regreted it. I dislike it. Too many weird sounds for my oppinion and the rainbow road dissappointed me. -_- I awaited more. In the N64 version you needed 10 minutes for it. THAT was good. But the one in DS just sucks.
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Timballisto on December 31, 2005, 04:53:21 AM
Really?  You think so?  Personally I liked the one in the DS version better than the one in N64.  Maybe it's just that I don't like really long courses...unless you do one right maybe.  The N64 one is waayyyyyyyyyyyyy too long for me.  It takes forever.  Not only that, but the whole thing is walled off.  The DS one I think is better, but my favorite one would have to be the GC version of RR.  My favorite RR music is the SNES one.  The DS Mario Kart as a whole is good, but maybe a bit too easy.  Still exciting to play though.  You forget it's too easy while you race sometimes.  If only there was a way to make the game increasingly harder as you became better...

Can anyone say manual handicaps?

Oh yeah.  If you get bored with the game then try making your own Grand Prixs with the versus option and select course turned on.  It's fun.

I hope the game provided something you liked.
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Jazzem on December 31, 2005, 11:32:42 AM
My personal favourite is the SNES version (Although after hours of Mario Kart DS I was hopeless at it-They're very un-alike!!), the handling  isexcellent, and a true example of "Easy to use, difficult to master". I've enjoyed every version really (Although I can't help but wish the N64 Karter was more speedy), even Double Dash, I'm a Mario Kart boff :P

Sorry you didn't like it though Andi, I actually like the DS Rainbow Road, arnd while the N64 one has a great charm about it, it's fairly tedious. Only the chain chomps provide any sort of challenge. What on Eath do you mean by weird sounds though!?

Either of you online with it? I know you disliked it Andi, but we can't go wrong with a race, eh?
Title: Re: Other Games

Weird sounds? I mean the stupid sounds when the characters overtake you. I like the older versions MUCH better when they just did a short sound without speaking something. But the voice output is just horrible. "Baby Mario!" WTF? O_o It's just like if they are Pokemon, only able to speak their own name.
Ok it had some things I like. The "2 player in one kart" idea is neat and true 3d drivers are also something good. But the houses in mushroom city are just a great failure.

And sorry, we can go wrong with a race. I have no modem. :/

Eh? That's "Mario Kart: Double Dash!!"you're talking about! Although the DS version has the voices (Which are fairly amusing if you ask me =P), it doesn't have Baby Mario, and it certainly doesn't have 2 players in one kart!

Basically, you'll need to get a wireless signal going to your DS. You can do this in several ways...

1)Have a wireless router (You may have to update the firmware if it's slightly out of date)
2)Buy the offical wifi USB adapter that Nintendo are selling (Windows XP only, now 2000/98 or Mac).
3)Go to a local BT Openzone hotspot.

I've got a wireless router (Linksys HG200 v2), and it works perfectly. Not all routers will work though, so have &#A3;30 prepared just in case for the wifi adapter.

Where was DD criticized???  That's a great game!  How could you complain about it?  The only thing I don't like is it gets too easy after awhile, but that's fine.  It gets hard again after you leave it for awhile, and if not it's still fun to play.

Well...tell me more about the wireless router.  We have one, but it doesn't have whatever the DS needs apparently (when I found the option for wi-fi in MK DS I looked for connections just for fun.  I turned up three networks in my neighborhood including my own O_o.  I tried ours but it said some weird thing and wouldn't work.).

Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Timballisto on January 07, 2006, 02:25:33 AM
Wow. &#A0;Okay. &#A0;That is one of the cheapest things I've ever seen. &#A0;There were some people in dry bombers using dry bones, and they could go ridiculously fast, go over dirt without slowing down, and basically be at any position they wanted to be on the road (like they would twitch right and left all over the place, only they would jump around - you wouldn't see them actually move over). &#A0;It sucks. &#A0;I'm never playing anyone who uses that. &#A0;Is that something your not supposed to be able to do or what?

EDIT: Well, I've found out that this trick is apparently something called snaking, and it's "legal".  If I could use this technique, I don't think I would.  It takes all the fun out of the game.  Really.  I prefer a race where you drift where you can, but not every second.  That's just no fun because all the emphasis is on drifting over and over.
Title: Re: Other Games
Post by: Jazzem on January 08, 2006, 12:17:34 AM
You're finally online? Awesome! We'll race sometime today then :)

Regarding the snaking, I think it's okay in small doses if you're losing. I do kind of feel guilty though, I once did it on the last straight on Figure 8 and overtook the person in front! But yeah, when you're going maniacal with it it just saps the fun out.

EDIT: Ah yes, my friend code...

Oh.  Well, I'll do that just as soon as my brother gets the DS back to me.  He's using it right now.

Sunday at 1:00 PM?  Not sure what time that is where you're at.  I'm talking about 1:00 PM Standard time...I think.

Well according to my time, you posted that at 8:57pm. Does that help at all? It's also 9:30pm at the time of typing.

Yes. &#A0;That means you should get on at 7:00 PM - or in otherwords right now.

EDIT: Say, I wouldn't have to have your code too would I?

I'm sorry about the delay, are you ready to search? I'll search as soon as you reply.

EDIT: Yeah, you'll need to add mine...

Sorry.  Internet died.  Well, I'll be on, but apparently it's 12:00 AM where you're at, so I'll try again at 12:00 PM (6 PM for you).

Okay try now.

Let me get this straight though.  Just go to the friends option under search, right?

Wow, great races! Certainly very close (The Wario Stadium finish springs to mind!), I guess the tie was inevitable.

Same time tommorow?

EDIT: Ah yes, friend searches are restricted to people on your friend list.

Yeah!  Those were great!  That last race was really wierd though.  I think there was some lag somehow, because you were jumping all over the track.  Your symbol is awesome XD .

Well, I can't do the same time tomorrow because I'll be in school then.  I also might not be in a place where I can get onto WFC when I go home that day (parents are divorced with joint custody, and one has a wireless router, the other doesn't).  I'll check.  As for another time, I'll probably be able to get on at about 3:30 PM (my time) when I have access to WFC.

Oh yes.  And then there are semester exams to study for *shiver at the fact that I haven't started studying yet and the exams are only two days away*.  I'll see when I can get on next.  Andi you wouldn't want to play sometime would you?

Oh.  Just found out tomorrow I'm at the same house.  I'll be on at 4:00 (here).  If I'm not there assume I'm studying, and if I am there I'll only do one set of races because I'm going to have to start studying soon.

Thanks.

The forum lag is really bad right now.

Yeah.  Lag is really bad, so i guess that's why I somehow ended up posting six times.

My jumping about was due to a busy internet connection on either of our ends, probably mine since there was two PC's running aswell, and it's only 512kb. Thanks for the avatar compliments :)

Would 4:00 be about 24 hours or so from now?

About.  It would be at 10 PM where you're at.  Whatever time I give you just take it and add six hours.

It's good. Only two levels in the game is the problem. I prefer games with something like 10-15 levels or so. Short games are what I get sick of  :P

I've mostly been spending my time playing Guild Wars these days, as the avatar suggests. I've also been playing Counterstike: Source some.

Counterstrike is brilliant. Multi-player games rock!

If you play Quake then play multi-player  :)

Anyone heard of Thunderforce? It's a pretty obscure SHMUP series that is mostly on the mega drive, but I own/love the 4th one. I picked it up in a second hand shop and really enjoy it. Some old school (If ridiculously hard!) fun :)

Well Jazzem, I've finally gotten my own copy of Mario Kart DS, so I can play you again sometime.  Give me a time, and I'll see if it works for me.

Just to be sure :)

EDIT: Yeah it was about 2:10.

Yep, I've picked you up :) I'm afraid I'll only do one game for tonight (Gotta get up early for tommorow!)

EDIT: Huh!? Well that was irritating... A busy internet connection for me or you by the looks of it... I'll disconnect my PC from the internet.

It was probably on my end.  I think my mom is trying to do some work on the internet.  Still though, I can't believe we tied...again...XD.  Man that's funny.

Yeah, those races were very, very close! I refuse to believe that Choco Mountain ending actually happened!  :o

I should be able to do some matches tommorow at the same time (Or even earlier, but only by an hour or so). Shall we settle the score then? ;)

3:30 to 4 is fine (9:30 to 10:00 for you I think).  Is it alright if my brother plays too?

The choco mountain finish?  I can't remember what happened there exactly, but if I had to guess I'd say I bounced off of the tops of the last three hills and flew over you.  I like bouncing on those hills.  It's fun.  I'm not sure if that's what I did or not though.
