Title: video game music
Post by: mobius on July 24, 2016, 12:41:15 AM
Post here video game music you like; in particular music that could be used with Lemmings or Lix.

this is the music from the original Atari Lynx version of Chip's challenge, I particularly like it even though it's a bit odd in places.

Later I'll post some of the music I used in my pack and revenge of the Lemmings.

In the folder with music I could potentially use for Lemmings levels, among much other stuff from past Lemmings games and packs, I have the 6 main tracks from the Amiga Lotus III soundtrack. I got the soundtrack from here (http://www.mirsoft.info/gmb/music_info.php?id_file=NTMz).
It's one of my favourite soundtracks of all time, for both Amiga and Atari ST.

Playlist of my favourite tracks (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAQXbJjlazLIm5HEYNYrQ2faPOvEVheF1) from the Touhou series. It has a lot of great music, as you can tell from the length of the playlist :)

Cave Story (especially 3D) is full of music perfect for Lemmings! Playlist here:

im not sure if it's lemmings suitable as the massive limitations of the sound chip may make it sound a bit harsh for some but I really like this song: Chronos Title Screen (by Tim Follin, for ZX Spectrum) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-D24A_N4d4)

I don't really listen to game OSTs though so I can't think of any more off the top of my head, maybe I should hear some more.

(Not including songs from rhythm games I like e.g. pop'n music as they are more just regular songs than really VG soundtrack + would definitely be too distracting)

UNDERTALE has a great soundtrack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B69GfSqEZEs&index=4&list=PLpJl5XaLHtLX-pDk4kctGxtF4nq6BIyjg

Also it is a great game, almost certainly my favourite. Not heavy on tough puzzles though, mostly on fun Touhou-like gameplay and really cute dialogue. Proxima may like?

Colorful Arty: seconded. I like the Cave Story soundtrack, and the game. (I'm a sucker for anything metroidvania...) I haven't heard the 3D version though, it's good!

Proxima: seconded! Touhou has fantastic music, and you have some excellent picks too! I know the piano for a couple of those, actually.

More good Touhou music, not on your playlist yet:

here's a song I got from a game rip music archive;
It's supposedly from some odd version of chips challenge but I'd never heard of it.

Maybe it's from Chip's Challenge 2?  According to Wikipedia (I think it might've been mentioned here as well), it was held up for ages due to publishing rights issue but was eventually released on Steam on 2015.  I never played it so I don't know what music it has.  The article mentioned there was also a Steam release of CC 1 as well, but not sure whether it'd have new music or not.

It could have been from an unreleased version of 10-20 years ago [though that seems very unlikely] but it can't be the now version of CC2. CC1 & 2; as downloaded today from Steam comes only with Scot Joplin piano music.

I think it's more likely that site has typos and errors honestly

One game I've been watching recently is Hollow Knight, which has a beautiful soundtrack (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwnXMtw0uXKK6jhjGRL3kvc8zJKgKVhIs).

that is good music. That game looks really good, I've been considering getting it for a while. (only reason I haven't is I'm broke and still have games I haven't played yet.
