Title: Lemmings appearances in strange old software
Post by: Gronkling on February 11, 2016, 01:37:46 AM
As most will know Lemmings were very popular when it came out. Due to this, they inevitably appeared in a whole lot of shifty software and demos etc. In this thread I will post any I come across!

First off we have the true names of skills in a cheat menu of a cracked version of the Atari ST port:

(Note: Saying yes to both of the confirmation options causes my emulator to completely crash and close)

Also on the atari ST is a large series of pirate multi-disks which are themed on lemmings, I still haven't gone through them all but these are the best things from them I've seen yet:

And finally for now, a strange demo on the amstrad CPC, hidden under a spoiler for some large swears

NSFW sort of (click to show/hide)

I'll post more when I find it 8-)

(For those interested I also run a blog (http://wereware.tumblr.com) that specialises in this kind of thing, because I love it)

On a similar note, for those who haven't seen it yet, here's the tribute to Lemmings in DROD 5: The Second Sky (2014):

whoa, weird stuff :D

that second picture scares me. The lemmings holding up the signs look like they're giving birth :o

I'm really curious what "No Buddies Land" and "toggle 50/60 Hz" is. The latter I'm guessing is a menu option but the first sounds like a game, albeit a weirdly bad one.

"Do you really want to play" would make a great motto for this thread. Given how sketchy these demos look, I might just answer n :P

here's a lemmings themed game for the amiga, its OPERATION LEMMING

Yes this is one of those classic "popular thing but you shoot the main character" games
Each 'level' begins with a screen that reminds me of the Karoshi mode of NeoLemmix

And then each level is basically a really simple shooting gallery game with lemmings including lovely skating 8-) s

I didn't screenshot the death animation but imagine a simple 'flatten sprite effect' and a lemming 'ohno' noise
That's all there is to it really

Interesting find! Wonder if it was made around the time Lemmings 2 came out (or, at least it was inspired primarily by that game), the terrain graphics look suspiciously reminiscent of the L2 Circus style.

Out of curiosity, what other actions are featured besides the skateboarding depicted in the screenshot?

This was apparently released in 1991, so its pre-L2. The other animations (at least the ones I saw) were regular walkers of various speeds and floaters
