Title: New Big Lemmini Custom Pack: Lemmings Reunion
Post by: IchoTolot on April 08, 2015, 11:54:25 AM
I highly recommend using the NeoLemmix version of this pack! All newer updates are just made for the NL version nowdays! Also it is way more convenient to play there as in Lemmini ;)
You can find it here: http://www.lemmingsforums.net/index.php?topic=2175.0

1.) Download Links:

Lemmings Reunion (v 1.5):                https://www.dropbox.com/s/ir0zw4qke3f4ngi/Lemmings%20Reunion%20V%201.5.zip?dl=1

Lemmini:                                            www.lemmini.de

Lemmings for windows (if needed):  https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ugpmlpv4x6urg72/AAADQ3X8m--M4or_akcmeUo2a?dl=1

2.) Installation:

Step 1 is ment for people who doesn't even have Lemmini. Step 2 is the pack installation.

1.1) Download everything and put "Lemmini" and the files for "Lemmings for windows" in different folders.

1.2) Run "Lemmini.jar" in the "Lemmini" folder and select the "Lemmings for windows" folder as the source and the "Lemmini" folder as the target

2.1) Make a safety copy of the "Lemmini files"

2.2) Copy the "Lemmings Reunion" folder of the pack into the "levels" folder of "Lemmini" and overwrite the "styles" folder of Lemmini with the one from the "pack".

2.3) Copy the files in the "Packs" "music" folder into the "music" folder  of "Lemmini"

2.4) Have fun ;)

3.) Some words

It was back when I was ~ 4 years old as I played Lemmings for the first time on my fathers Dos pc. I loved it from the first moment on (even though I got only to the first repeats of Tricky) and began to create drawings of levels with skillsets, timelimit and everything. The level were simply "build to the exit" ones, but nevertheless I always wanted to create my own levels.
I searched and searched for an editor over the years with no success (the basic game and Oh NO were finally played through).
But then through some random Youtube search I found Pieuws, Dodochacalo's and Lacktardos custom levels for Lemmini. I downloaded Lemmini and played DoveLems which (and the single custom levels of course) opened my eyes in terms of what is possible with Lemmings.
I also stumbled across RTW's playthroughs at this time which gave me a gooood time.
PimoLems and Revenge of the Lemmings later as I was uploading the "Revenge" solutions I came across a comment from 84kingmartin which had the question in it, if I make also my own levels and I thought: Yes Icho why don't you make your own levels, you know that there is the Lemmix editor which works with Lemmini out there.
And so the creating of the pack started and now it is finally done (lil me is cheering in the backgroung :D) and I hope many people will have fun and frustration :devil: with it!

4.) Ratings

I'm too young to die

In the first rating you will encounter tutorial levels, a few go to the exit ones, levels teaching you basic tricks and your first real puzzles. Don't expect it to go as slowly as the original game! (The final level of the rank will prob a spike as it counts on you using a bunched of tricks you learned so far)
(Fun-Tricky)

Hey, not too rough

Rock and Metal:
(http://i.imgur.com/kyB3ZmB.png)
Puzzles are getting harder, the tricks you learn will be advanced ones and even some pixel-precision will be needed.
(Tricky-Taxing)

Hurt me plenty

Whispers and Lights:
(http://i.imgur.com/lsA6Qwk.png)
It gets a lot harder here. Levels getting way more difficult and longer and you have to frequently use all the tricks you learned so far. Sometimes think outside the box!
(Taxing-Mayhem)

Ultra-Violence

Now it's on! It is getting frustraiting sometimes and you have to use everything you got.
(Mayhem-Beyond)

Nightmare!

Are you serious? Let's find out! The first ~ 15-18 levels will be just plain hard, but then :devil:. I am no longer your friend here! I am your worst nightmare! Levels are mostly long, complex, require perfect precision and everything out of your trickbox. They will be frustraiting, but consider: THIS IS THE NIGHTMARE! RATING and not the cuddle one!
(:devil::devil::devil::devil:)

5.) Thanks to:

84kingmartin                                     for encouraging me to create my own levels
Pieuw, Dodochacalo and Lacktardo   for inspiring me (their custom levels were the first I saw and opened my eyes)
RTW                                                   for entertaining me with Lemming playthroughs all the time
namida                                               for helping me along the way and getting me also into NeoLemmix (further all his created packs)
möbius                                               for giving me some advise along the way and for mobilems
The whole community                        for letting the Lemmings live on and also for Revenge of the Lemmings

That sounds sooooo familiar. A few of Lemmings forumers have gone through the same, including me. :P

I love the rating names! :D I realized immediately where they are taken from:

After a bit fiddling I managed to set up the game, awesome to hear L2 and L3 tunes here! :thumbsup: And of course the new songs, too. By the way, I noticed that you used the base from möbius' readme-file, at the end there's stuff that is not related to your pack. :P
When I tried to access level 8 from the first rating, "Your Turn!", this message pops up, any idea what causes this?

Not overly familiar with either Java or Lemmini, but my first guess would be that the level references a terrain piece (or object) number that doesn't exist in the corresponding graphic set?

Hm, that would be the case. there is sth not right with the styles folder. I'm looking what is causing the prob.
Title: Re: New Big Lemmini Custom Pack: Lemmings Reunion
Post by: IchoTolot on April 08, 2015, 03:09:26 PM
Fixed the Readme, and packed it again securing that this is "Really" the right styles folder.
If the prob continues, try to copy the Dirt folder manually. Had some problems with Mobilems and PacGuy's pack running together and sometimes bringing back the standard config from Mobilems didn't worked with simply copying the whole folder and I had to patch the broken stuff manually (crytal and the bubble steel for example).
I think Mobilems changes the standard sets a little bit, because with standard Lemmini styles sometimes I got some errors, too.

So tested it:
Made a new Lemmini folder from scratch and extracted the status quo, copied in the pack content and my player profile for lvl access. Choosed Your Turn and it functions, so the problem should be fixed.
Please let me know if any more errors accure!

Everything works fine now (at least for me). I finished the first rating and the levels were much fun.
Starting with the second rating, the difficulty takes a HUGE step up to something more like late Taxing (and sometimes even late Mayhem like Knights of Honor) instead of the Tricky-Taxing you promised us ;). The level ideas are excellent, but I have some complaints about the time limits: Is it really necessary that they are soooo tight? Usually I have less than 30 seconds on the clock and sometimes I needed to play much of a level again to save a few more seconds...
It was particularly bad in Trick and Trap Time: Out of 7 minutes I had at the end 5 seconds (with the optimum being about 13 seconds)!!! Moreover this is paired with...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

PS @IchoTolot: I send you my replays by PM. And perhaps you could try out setting more objects (in particular hatches and exits) to "No Overwrite". In my opinion it is more convenient to see the stairs that one has build in front of them instead of keeping the objects visible.

No, but maybe I'll try to port to NeoLemmix/SuperLemmini after some time.
Title: Re: New Big Lemmini Custom Pack: Lemmings Reunion
Post by: namida on April 08, 2015, 10:14:27 PM
Moving to SuperLemmini shouldn't be too difficult; all you'll have to do is move the trigger areas (on objects in custom styles) downwards by about half a lemming's height. This is because SuperLemmini (like Lemmix / NeoLemmix, and unlike Lemmini) checks for trigger areas at the lemming's foot.

Aside from that, Lemmini graphic sets and levels *should* work on SuperLemmini without any problems, as far as I'm aware.

Porting to NeoLemmix would be a bit tricker, but should still be doable. The main issue is that the graphic set tool can't open Lemmini graphic sets yet, though it will be able to in the future.

One other thing to be aware of (for both SuperLemmini and NeoLemmix) is that the glitch of creating a left-facing entrance by putting a piece of terrain behind it no longer works. However, you don't need to exploit glitches to get left-facing entrances anyway, as both of them natively support making left-facing entrances.

One replay and the basher glitch is gone ;)

A few month certainly. I'll wait at least until namidas pack tutorial (if I port it to NeoLemmix) and I need some rest from big pack creating.

I will take notes from the feedback you send me and prepare a overall patch when at least 1 or 2 players get through it. (So I don't need to upload x versions in the first few days).

Do not be shy to send me sharp criticism!

I had a go at it, and got up to level 11 before Lemmini's lack of the fine control features Lemmix/NeoLemmix have got too annoying... xD

Definitely seems like a good pack! However, one thing I would point out - the background on level 7 (I think), "City Builders", makes it VERY hard to see the cursor...

Yes that's a weakness of the tileset. That's why there are just 5 level of this kind in the pack (and the terrain tiles are kinda clumpy).

Patch 1.1 is out, which fixes a lot of time frustration (rank 1-4) and a few broken levels (2 01; 2 16; 2 17; 2 28; 3 07; 3 20; 3 24)!
Pack level order stays the same at this point, but will be reconsidered at a later point.

I'm in rating 2 level 8: Knights of Honor. So far really enjoyable stuff, I had high expectations for this pack and they've been nicely fulfilled! :thumbsup: So much effort put in every level, playing experiences are guaranteed to be superior to sparsely detailed levels in many other levelpacks. So far maybe even a bit too many too large levels, to some extent it could turn out to be tiring.

In my opinion the difficulty is really high already, and if you compared in your starter post those difficulties to the original Lemmings, then I'd disagree. :P I think the game goes Mayhem already in the first rating, 4 last levels were pretty tough. All the levels (except for maybe level 2) have been also Mayhem or higher tier in my opinion in the second rating. So, I don't know how hard this is exactly going to get, or if the rest of the ratings are going to be close to each other in terms of difficulty.

I love to see the different tilesets though, and there seems to be quite equal amounts of those, which is always an issue I respect a lot. :) And did I already mention that the music is splendid too, I feel so pumped up for these challenges with all these new tunes, like used in rating 1 level 28: Morituri te salutant!

Ty for the comment!
I am currently waiting for Nepsters last replays of rank 4; then I am preparing a little patch to fix some more backroutes he found and some more time issues.
The big level position changes will be made when some people got through the whole pack (and there are quite a few to be made! .... evaluating the difficulty of your own stuff is quite hard)

Then please be aware that you might have to wait for another week, because I decided first to work on my level for the ongoing contest and then to update my NepsterLems levels, before playing the rest of Lemmings Reunion.

The biggest change in difficulty occurs between rank 1 and 2 (at least for the ranks I have already covered). Afterwards there is only a slight increase in difficulty. And actually I found the second half of rank 2 somewhat easier than the first. So while I agree that the levels are not Tricky, your current opinion of rank 2 may be slightly off when considering the whole rank.

3 19

4 07
4 08
4 11
4 16

Patch 1.3 is out!

Following levels are fixed:

2 11: Made it shorter and less frustraiting.

4 19: Skillset adjusted!
4 23: Completely different solution. Easier in my opinion and it will prob. be placed earlier in another patch.
4 29: Completely different solution again! But this one I am a bit proud of :laugh:  less precision and a more interesting solution with fewer skills.

5 03: Backroute fixed!
5 04: Backroute fixed!
5 07: Easier to execute now + more time!
5 08: Backroute fixed!
5 09: Backroute fixed!
5 12: Backroute fixed!
5 13: Easier to execute now + more time!
5 14: Backroute fixed!
5 15: Backroute fixed!
5 18: Backroute fixed!
5 20: Placement of 2 builders is now more forgiving!
5 21: Backroute fixed + more time!

5 19 will be fixed in the next patch! Need to think more about it. (prob. needs a complete rework)

Title: Re: New Big Lemmini Custom Pack: Lemmings Reunion

Next patch will be up soon!
It will include more "Nightmare" rank fixes up to level 28, which hopefully eliminates all big backroutes (just need to test my fixes and reworks and make new replays of the levels).
Only NM 29 and 30 have not been beaten yet (V1.0 at least. Some fixed backrouted stuff still needs additional "non-creator" testing, as it hasn't been beaten in it's intended way).
Next thing on the list will be a level switch-around to fix the difficulty-curve, with the help of the feedback you gave me. I might start to convert the levels of the first rank into NeoLemmix format though, because (partly "new" ;)) music, position and so on will be assigned as I bind the ported pack back together (as far as I understand the process at this current point :P) and not right with the level conversion.
Title: Re: New Big Lemmini Custom Pack: Lemmings Reunion

Version 1.4 is out with following fixes:

5 19: Beginning area + overall solution reworked + 1 min additional time
5 22: Backroute fixed + 1 extra min
5 23: Backroute fixed
5 25: A Flamethrower is now more visible to make a placment of a digger more fair.
5 26: SLIGHT backroute fixed to enforce an additional trick
5 27: Backroute fixed + additional time + an additional climber (had to rework quite some things here)
5 28: Backroute fixed

5 24: Despite Nepsters advice to move an entrance for a few pixels to make the timimng of his solution slightly less precise, I have decide it to stay this way, because of another backroute it would enable and the fact that his solution is a bit backrouted, too. I let his solution stay, because it requires other advanced tricks, but the tight timing this solution requires will stay, because it is not quite intended after all. And it is the last third of the NIGHTMARE rating after all ;).

Version 1.5 is out! It focuses on fixing the difficulty curve:

2 01 <-> 2 12
2 03 <-> 2 09
2 07 <-> 2 15
2 08 <-> 2 24
2 19 <-> 2 23
2 10 <-> 2 21 + giving the new 2 10 additional Lemmings
2 20 <-> 3 17 + giving the new 2 20 an additional min so even less optimal solutions will work
3 13 <-> 3 06
3 07 <-> 3 27
2 28 -> 3 21 -> 4 06 -> 3 04 -> 3 01 -> 2 28

With the now fixed curve I will continue with converting the pack.

If there will be future updates, they will be based on if you send me more replays with backroutes in it (mostly backroutes of the already "fixed" ones or the not yet beaten 5 29 +5 30).

This version was made for standard Lemmini back in the days -- no idea about it working on Superlemmini.

I am not maintaining the Lemmini version actively anymore --- there won't be anymore patches here --- if you want the fully maintained and improved version (V 3.4 atm): Just go here. (https://www.lemmingsforums.net/index.php?topic=2175.0)

Levels in official graphic sets should work fine in SuperLemmini, but custom Lemmini graphic sets do not work properly in SuperLemmini without changes. This is due to a difference in how the trigger areas work - Lemmini expects the trigger areas to be based on the middle of the lemming, whereas SuperLemmini expects them to be based on the lemming's foot (this is more in line with how the official games, as well as NeoLemmix and Lix, work).

Hello Icho,

I'm well aware that you're not maintaining/updating this pack for Lemmini anymore, but the last several weeks I decided to revisit Lemmings Reunion on this engine and properly save replays, as well as upload Youtube video solutions. Yes, I was crazy enough to allow myself to be very annoyed with constant restarts on so many levels because of one misplaced skill assignment or I forget to interrupt the replay :laugh: I've definitely grown to like NL so much over the last 2.5 years, so why revisit Lemmini which doesn't have all the wonderful quality of life features, you ask? The short answer is that I was very fond of Lemmini back in the days and I still like to occasionally revisit the engine from time to time, even if the lack of such convenience features gets annoying. Also, I still am a diehard fan of classical Lemmings, i.e, time limits on every level, classic 8 skills only, etc.

I've attached my replay collection, although if you don't have Lemmini on your device anymore then I would just watch the solutions on my channel. In particular, I solve Nightmare! 30 via a glitch. Also, on that level there is some very annoying invisible steel areas in the upper area in the very far left area that I've forgotten about that prevents you from destroying solid terrain, but you can still bypass it, you just need to do it closer to the level edge.

Playlist link of my solutions: Kaywhyn's video solutions of Icho's Lemmings Reunion Pack for Lemmini (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbp2m4KlFpJtYIzD6XJPj7B0SxK7h2tLR)
