February 14th marks 20 years since the first release of our favourite puzzle game, back in 1991!

We did a bunch of talks for this, you can see them online here: http://www.vimeo.com/22169889, courtesy of Steve Hammond who tapped it.

There's also a bunch of Steve's pictures on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/59694745@N03/sets/72157626086122152/with/5458405590/

Enjoy!

It's a pity that the camera didn't show any of the presentation slides, but nevermind. Nice story to listen to, even if most of the details we were already intimately familiar with, being complete and utter Lemmings nerds! :D

Thanks Mike for posting this! :) Like Jason said, a lot of this is familiar to us hardcore fans (from The Lemmings Story, mostly - incidentally, I just had a look at this again and all the pictures are down :-\). But still, it was a great listen.

One particular thing I noted: one of you mentioned there were about 500 levels built for the first Lemmings, yet only 120 made it into the game. What happened to the rest? Are they still on a disk somewhere? Did some of them end up in the other ports (eg. Present and Sunsoft ratings on Genesis), or later levelsets (ONML/Holiday)?

Well, the video description does say this:

Although I wasn't the official videographer, I managed to find a place to stick my camera.

Which suggests that there's an "official" video out there that shows the slides. Whether we'll actually get to see it is another matter, of course :-\.

happy birthday! Does this mean Lemmings can now drink?  :D

interesting video.
wouldn't it be interesting to hear what the creators think of the hundreds of level players have created now?

yeah, I wanna see those too. They all couldn't have been terrible.

22 today!

(With a little better organisation, this might have been the better date to finish the level contest, or at least release the levels)

Hi everyone, long time no post

My dad and I were playing lemmings at the weekend still really popular with us even after 22 years.  It was mad the way the rubbish dump level from the two player mode was played.  My lemmings ended up in dads section of the level where the house was and it was a lot of work to get the lemmings right round to my base.

22 years oh my, just shows you how popular and well remembered this game is.

Hope you are all well.

Yup, Happy Birthday Lemmings!

Funny that it's also Lara Croft's birthday as well.

Actually no, it's only the birthday of the Japanese version of the first game on PS1. Tomb Raider was first released for the Sega Saturn on October 25 1996. I didn't know the Sega Saturn had it first.

Whoa, I clearly mentioned "Lara Croft's birthday" and not "Tomb Raider's birthday". There's a difference there. ;P

In her biography, Lara Croft is born the February 14th in 1968.

Yes, right... I am afraid you are too optimistic. I don't expect much more to show up (if anything).

They confirmed it's in the works, and I know for a fact that one company is only waiting on licensor approval before pre-orders can begin for their products (quite simply, I asked and they replied ;P ). One item was released last month, already, too.

Haha, I know I haven't been. I was introduced to Lemmings a couple of years later, in 1993, myself. It's still a damn long time for me, even so, though!
