Title: How fast can you solve the following levels?
Post by: Minim on September 01, 2009, 05:46:13 PM
I've sequelised one of LemSteven's projects! So, out of all the levels which are impossible in under one minute, how fast can you go around the rest of the levels? I've made a list of levels showing which ones are impossible in under one minute:

Fun: 14-15, 19, 21-23, 28.
Tricky: 4, 8, 14, 29-30
Taxing: 1, 7-8, 11-15, 17, 20, 23, 25, 28.
Mayhem: 1, 5-6, 9, 17, 19, 21-23, 26, 28-30.

Crazy: 4, 6-10, 14, 17-18.
Wild: 2, 4, 10, 13-16.
Wicked: 2, 9-12, 15.
Havoc: 1-5, 8-9, 11, 13, 20.

Frost: 1, 6-7, 10-12.
Hail: 1, 3, 7-14
Flurry: 6-8, 10, 13.
Blitz: 1-5, 9, 11-13, 15.

2 minutes: Fun 14, 15, 19, 21-23, 28; Tricky 4, 8, 14, 30; Taxing 7, 8, 11; Mayhem 5-6, 9, 17, 19, 21-22, 26, 30; Crazy 6-10; Wild 2, 4, 10, 13-16; Wicked 9-12, 15; Havoc 1-3, 5, 9, 11, 13, 20; Frost 1, 6-7, 10-12; Hail 1, 7, 10-14; Flurry 6-8, 13; Blitz 2-5, 11-13, 15.
3 minutes: Taxing 1, 13; Mayhem 1, 23, 28-29; Crazy 18; Wicked 2; Havoc 4, 8; Hail 3, 8-9; Flurry 10; Blitz 9.
4 minutes: Blitz 1
5 minutes: Taxing 14

I like this idea better. This way you get some sense of completion when you find a quick solution to a level. Something like, "okay, there's no way I'm going to be able to take another 20 seconds [or whatever] off this solution, time to move on", rather than "ooh, maybe if I change the release rate slightly at this point, I can take another second off this solution. UGH  now I have to play through the whole thing again and redo all the glitches and perfect timing...". If you see what I mean.

In other words, this way is easier. Much easier.

The results don't have to be EXACT.

In this thread, they don't have to be. But in your thread, if they're not exact, then you have to live with the knowledge that they can be improved, which is not satisfying at all.

To begin: Fun 14, 15 and 19 can all be done in 2 minutes.

Did you look at this thread yet?

I have just now. Good point, :XD: although the levels aren't finished yet, I'll keep the copy in my folder and I'll update my topic.

Fun 14 and 15 can be done in 2 minutes.

Please send me a replay of Fun 15, because I was struggling. Anyway, I've also checked that Fun 14 is doable in 2. Only just though...

Fun 15 takes a bit of speed-building to cross the gap fast enough. Here is a replay.

:o I've never seen a bridge look like that before in my life, and I didn't realise miners were quicker than bashers across walls. Anyway, thanks for the help.
Title: Re: How fast can you solve the following levels?

I used miners there because the speed-building trick only works with bashers, and there aren't enough available to bash the pillars as well.

Actually, this is one of two speed-building tricks - the other is where you use multiple lemmings together, each building from the end of a new brick laid by the previous one as soon as possible.

So I wonder, what release rate will this trick work the best? I might find it out for myself though...

Anyway, I don't think this project is finished yet, even though I've updated all results. I personally think the times aren't that strict. I might look at some lemmix replays (no matter what they are) to see how fast each level was done.

3 minutes: Tricky 4, Taxing 7, Crazy 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, Wild 13, 15, 16, Havoc 4, 12, Flurry 8.

Bolded levels can all be done in 2 minutes. Havoc 12 can be done in one minute (hence it shouldn't even be on this list).

Replays attached for Taxing 7 and Crazy 10, since these are very difficult to do.

Bashing the steel? That's cheating! :P

OK, I'll let you off...

The 2-minute list could yet grow rather large...

I have done the Original levels from the 4-minute list and found them all to be doable in less:
2 minutes: Tricky 8, 30, Taxing 11, Mayhem 6, 9, 17
3 minutes: Taxing 1

EDIT: Just noticed that some levels are missing from the current lists (eg. Crazy 18). Can you please add them in? (Just use their time limits as before)
Title: Re: How fast can you solve the following levels?
Post by: Clam on September 13, 2009, 12:01:28 AM
4 minutes: Tricky 8, 30, Taxing 11, Crazy 8, Wild 2, 4, 10, 14, Wicked 2, 9-12, 15, Flurry 6, 7, Havoc 1-3, 5, 8-9, 11, 13, Frost 12, Hail 10.

All the ONML levels in the 4-minute list, except Wicked 2, can be done in 2 minutes. (Can you delete the three Original levels from this group? They've been moved already.)

Crazy 18 (3 minutes) can go to the 2-minute group as well.

Attached are replays for Wicked 9, 10 and 11.

4 minutes: ... Flurry 6, 7,  Frost 12, Hail 10.

These four are possible in 2 minutes. And before anyone asks, I fixed the entrance order in Hail 10 before playing - but in this case, it doesn't matter anyway.

5 minutes: Fun 28, Mayhem 5, 19, 21-23, 26, 28-29

Mayhem 23, 28 and 29 can be done in 3 minutes, the rest in 2.
Title: Re: How fast can you solve the following levels?
Post by: Minim on September 19, 2009, 06:09:29 AM
Mayhem 23 can be done in 3 minutes.

Really? :o That's incredible, I did it in 5 minutes and I was quite impressed. I would like a replay sometime.
Title: Re: How fast can you solve the following levels?
Post by: Clam on September 19, 2009, 06:59:15 AM
Well you're in luck - I capped a replay when I did that.

The trick is to slide the lemmings up to the top of the screen, rather than building all the way to the top of the wall.

I Solved Mayhem 30 in just 3 minutes! :D Here's a fantastic replay with (just) enough lemmings to save.
Title: Re: How fast can you solve the following levels?
Post by: Clam on September 19, 2009, 09:45:15 AM
That's nice, but there are a few parts where you've "wasted" time rather than moving towards the exit. And I can see some opportunities to gain more time by sliding instead of building to the top of large obstacles.

I wonder if this could be done in 2 minutes...
Title: Re: How fast can you solve the following levels?
Post by: Minim on September 19, 2009, 10:00:14 AM
I did try to use sliding glitches for both ends of the level but they are so hard to pull off I never actually needed them in the solution.

On the left side I was thinking of the rock bridge;

On the right side I was thinking of their first obstacle (or maybe the wall leading up to the exit?).
Title: Re: How fast can you solve the following levels?
Post by: Clam on September 19, 2009, 10:08:34 AM
The first obstacle on the right can be cleared quickly enough using bashers, blockers and bombers. The last little cliff before the exit is the bit I'm looking at.

Yes, it's hard to pull off the sliding glitch in this sort of situation, but it is possible - which in this sort of challenge is all that really matters.

5 minutes: Mayhem 1, Hail 7, 12, 14, Blitz 2-5.

Apart from the first two, these can be done in 2 minutes. Hail 7 seems to require about 2 minutes and 5 seconds at least, which is rather annoying.
Title: Re: How fast can you solve the following levels?
Post by: Minim on September 21, 2009, 06:16:04 PM
Done Hail 3 in 5 minutes, although I'm 99% sure it works with four...

Yes it does work in four, and here's the proof with a replay.

Just to let you know, As so many of you hate this level, I'm on the contrary and I love this level! ;P It's all because of the huge skill amounts combined with the low save requirements. It if wasn't like that, I wouldn't enjoy the level either.
Title: Re: How fast can you solve the following levels?
Post by: Clam on September 24, 2009, 09:03:57 AM
I just solved Tricky 14 in 2 minutes. :D Here's a replay (featuring everyone's favourite glitch, yet again :P)

And after watching that replay, it won't come as a great surprise to learn that Fun 22 can be done in 2 minutes as well.
Title: Re: How fast can you solve the following levels?
Post by: Minim on September 25, 2009, 07:09:23 PM
That counts. Well done Clam Spammer!

Anyway, I had a look at Yawg's 11-skill replay for Havoc 20, but he did it in 2 minutes and 5 seconds, so that doesn't count as 2 minutes. I wonder if it works in under two.
Title: Re: How fast can you solve the following levels?
Post by: Minim on September 28, 2009, 07:26:04 AM
Uh oh! I haven't checked if Havoc 2 works in under two minutes yet. Should it move to the 3 minute group or not?

EDIT: I think it does work in 2, but it was just that Clam Spammer didn't bold it because I mixed up the list a little bit.
Title: Re: How fast can you solve the following levels?
Post by: Clam on September 28, 2009, 08:13:40 AM
Hmm... I don't recall those Havoc levels being on that part of the list. It doesn't help that you put some Xmas levels in between - that might have caused the confusion.

I'll check those now.

EDIT: All right, put Havoc 8 back to 4 minutes. The rest can stay as they are. Panic's over :D

Thanks for sharing the videos on our forum (And proving on the Genesis version that Mayhem 8 works in under one minute).

Anyway. I've solved Hail 8 in 5 minutes and Hail 9 in 4 minutes. Nothing too difficult for 9, but 8 requires a little bit of precision to get the bashers in the right place.

For Blitz, I've cut the first level down to 4 minutes and the ninth to 3 minutes (Which made the level much more fun! ;)) For levels 11-13 and 15 I've cracked all four of those in two minutes. Replay attached for 11.

For Flurry, 10 can be done with 3 minutes, although it looks like 2 is out of reach. 13 easily works with 2 minutes.

Looks like this challenge is over now!

I have to great honor to revive an over 5 year old thread. ;)

Here a replay for Wild 13 in exactly 2 minutes. Note that I don't have single level files handy, so I cannot change the level in the Lemmix editor to a time limit of 2 minutes and verify that the replay still solves the level. But the clock shows 1:00 at the end, so it should be valid for this challenge thread.

Note that essentially the same solution works as well in NeoLemmix, where it solves the level in 1:58.12.

Updating this thread as well with some more exciting results (And heck, some of the Flurry results haven't even been added in yet)! The only level that I'm stuck on however is Taxing 13, the only original result left on 4 minutes. I can get 97% in 3 but not the required 98%. Maybe I'll do what Direkrow does and Paint a variety of solutions. :P

Mayhem 1: 3 minutes
Havoc 20: 2 minutes
Hail 3 & 9: 3 minutes
Hail 1, 7, 11 & 13: 2 minutes

Edit: 3 minutes confirmed for Taxing 13. Replay added to the bundle which contains all my solutions.

Here's another lemmings conundrum I've managed to crack. Hail 8 is doable in 3 minutes 1 second, which means in DOS it's possible in 3 minutes with the added pause-time glitch, and also an improvement by 2 minutes. (And even if it wasn't I think I had a builder left to spare with this solution too which could be used to turn that final lemming around). Replay attached. That result leaves Taxing 14 remaining as the longest level in the game so far.

For those who don't know, here's the glitch in detail below.
Quote
Pausing for time: The entrance hatch begins opening a specific length of time after the level starts, at the same time the sound effect plays. If you pause the game before the hatch begins to open, the timer stops counting down while the game is paused, but the hatch still opens at the same time (or immediately after you unpause, if you wait until after the sound plays). This gives you about two seconds extra to complete the level.

Havoc 8 improved to 3 minutes; in fact it was done quite a long time ago, just never came across the connection. :XD: Both the 3-miner and the no-digger replays will get the lemmings home with over a minute left.
