I own a copy of the origional Lemmings for DOS, and I recently decided that I would try to get it to work again, unfortunally, I can't run it on my XP, can someone help me get it to work.
Yes, I know there are the clones out there, but I want to get the origional game to work.
could someone please give me a little help
Download DOSBox 0.65 from http://dosbox.sourceforge.net to run old DOS games like Lemmings in Win XP. You should be able to find relevant instructions etc. on the website.
yes, then what then I do, I'm kinda confused,
Aslo, can someone show me how to get Oh No, More Lemmings to work also
ok, so i downloaded DOSbox and I read a thing on how to do it
now i get thing in the dosbox that says
"Lemmings Disk 1 not found, insert into drive A or B and retry"
and on the next line
"exiting lemmings..."
a little help please
grab lemmings from The Lemmings File Archive (http://it.travisbsd.org/lemmings/), then run LEMMINGS.EXE instead of VGALEMMI.EXE
its the same thing, i checked before
both lemmings.exe and vgalemmi.exe dont work
I'll try downloading it from the archieve again, though
thank you, downloading from the archieve made it work
all right,a few more questions
-how do i get Oh No, More Lemmings to work?
all I get is a thing that askes to put the Lemmings Disk into drive A: or B:, and to click to continue
-is there any DOS of the Holiday Games Available?
-how do i get lemmings 2 and Lemmings 3 to work?
I cant seem to get the DOS folder to go to LEMMINGS2 or LEMMINGS3 (Which is what I named the folders) when I try, It changes the directory to just LEMMINGS
-what is the best editor?
I downloaded the unhacked version of LemEdit, when I tried to run the program, the mouse didn't move
so, if someone could answer these questions, I would greatly appreciate it
Quote-how do i get Oh No, More Lemmings to work?
Not sure on this, I never got it working either.

I believe there is. I don't have them on me right now though.

There is a technical limitation to DOS that allows for only 8 letters in a file name. LEMMINGS2 and LEMMINGS3 have 9 letters, so it won't work. Also, from my experience, you MUST put Lemmings 3 in a folder called LEM3CD or it won't work for some stupid reason.

If you want to use LemEdit in DOSBox you must download the hacked version. Currently it is the best editor, but the work-in-progress Lemmix is catching up fast.

It works fine on my machine under DOSBox. Try downloading the game from abandonia (http://www.abandonia.com). I find that there are quite a few downloads of ONML on the Internet that doesn't work.
If you still cant get it to work, try downloading the files on my personal website, as I have the files from the DOS CD version of lemmings. I hope the files are original, but have a go anyway and see what happens.

VGALEMMI.EXE is the only executable file for each game. They work on my XP computer though.

thanks for the link
although, when I tried to play "Oh No, More Lemmings", there was no sound
at least you don't need DOS BOX to run them though

Well most modern machines simply don't have the types of sound cards that are compatible w/ old DOS games like Lemmings, so if you want sound you'll need something like DOSBox to emulate the old hardware.
yeah, I think I figured out what I did wrong before
but what about Lemmings 2, when I last played it in Dos Box, there was no sound, when I looked in the settings menu thing, there was a big X over the sound part, and I was unable to turn the sound on.
Do you mean sound effects or music?
Because according to the compatibility comments on the DOSBox site and also from my personal experience with DOSBox, the music will work but not the sounds.
Again, try downloading Lemmings 2 from abandonia.com and see if it helps. This is another one of those games where there are a few other "slightly defective" copies out on the net. The copy on my machine (which I believed was downloaded from abandonia.com) works perfectly in DOSBox, both music and sound effects.
Another thing I forgot to mention, adlib emulation in DOSBox (which is needed for some game's music) won't work properly if you increase the "Cpu Cycles" (emulation speed) settings too much from the default of 3000. If you don't know what I'm talking about then this is probably not an issue for you.
