Title: [NeoLemmix] Levels by NieSch
Post by: NieSch on June 17, 2019, 06:50:57 PM
Hi all! I'm new to level making using the great NeoLemmix Level Editor and I've made nine levels so far that I'd like to share.

I'm pre-releasing these nine levels, learn from the feedback, then make more levels and release a small pack of them someday.

These levels look very nice  I'll definitely be checking them out sometime this week.

Solved "Liftboy Wanted". :)

I have a basher to spare, so it could be a backroute. I really like the design though.

Well done! Yes, that's a backroute I didn't think of.

Edit: I changed the level to make your backroute impossible. There's now one basher less and one digger more. I can't see how, but I'm sure you'll find a new backroute now by using the digger...:P

Hehe, nice! You're not the first to use the Brick teleporter and receiver as lifts! ;) I actually did that for my levels "Sweet Home Alabama" and "House of the Rising Sun", for which I added those teleporters to the Old-Formats version of Brick. This used to be one of the features that were only added for the New-Formats conversions.

Interestingly enoug, I haven't seen any other teleporters aside from the Brick one being used as lifts. I guess it's just down to the association that comes with seeing a teleporter as a part of a wall or a building.

I guess you're right. I associated them with the lifts from another game I used to play in my childhood: Thunderbirds. Also for the Amiga like the original Lemmings.

The levels you mention look really nice. It's incredible the amount of great levels you all have made. It's like rediscovering Lemmings again.

Hey, this one was quite simple. Maybe a backroute?

Oops! I forgot to lock the release rate. Thanks for testing, I'll fix that. ;P

Edit: Fixed and new version uploaded, see attachment to my post above.

Well done! It's a backroute so it's back to the drawing board for me.;)

Edit: I changed the level slightly.

It took me a bit, but then I found a solution ;)

I like it! Again, it's not the intended solution, but it's close this time. It leaves the same triangle in the landscape that the title of the level is referring to. So I'm not gonna change the level this time. Thanks again for playing.

Ah, that's what the title is referring to. Of course also here in Germany the Pythagorean theorem is well-known :), but I wouldn't have linked this to the level in the way you had in mind. One question: Will these levels be part of a pack?

Yes, I would like to release a small packsome day including these levels. A fun one that's not too hard but still challenging for most players.

Can't play it at the moment since I'm off for holidays, but I will make up for it later. Looks nice.

Thanks. Have a nice holiday.

Also, I changed "Pythagolem's Theorem" so that your solution is no longer possible. See the original post for the new attachment.

Hello,

I solved one. I'm working hard on the the other two, though (including the new version of Pythagolem's Theorem).

I think "Out of the Frying Pan" is the toughest one yet.

Your solution to "Why Worry?" is a backroute again. You avoided those traps cleverly I must say! I'll have to make some changes. :)

Edit: I've added three buttons now. The buttons have to be pressed by lemmings walking by to open the exit. I think this is a really nice NeoLemmix feature that fits the level well. :)

Hi, here are my new solutions for the Pythagolem level and Why Worry. I'm quite optimistic that the former isn't that much of a backroute this time. The bubble-level is the very first I ever tried with that button-feature and I must say I like it.

I couldn't solve "Out of the Frying Pan" so far, but that's just a matter of time :-)

Thanks Swerdis. I really appreciate you playing/testing the levels.

Although your solution to 'Pythagolem's Theorem' wasn't the intended one, I won't change the level itself this time. Your solution is well done too.

What I did do is try to make the level look a bit less boring and to give an extra hint to the solution(s) by drawing a right-angled triangle and equal sign in the bricks:

Your solution to 'Why Worry?' is still a backroute that I'm not happy with. I changed the level again by moving one of the buttons (and adding 10 lemmings and 30 seconds). See the post above for the new attachments of level and intended solution.

After lots of attempts I must admit I couldn't crack your new version of "Why Worry". I saved 82, but not the required 85. Since I've got my holidays split this year, I'm off for another week from tomorrow on. When I'm back I'll give it another try, but I guess you will have come up with another level then. :)

Has anyone solved "Out of the Frying Pan" yet? I like my intended solution and I hope there are no silly backroutes that I've overlooked. :)

I will take a look at the new levels in August. Right now I am a bit busy. ;)

Hey, I named a level like that in LWT! ^^

Just kidding, there's no copyright on level titles, after all. ;)

Though I'm a little curious: Are you planning to pre-release every single level you make? I don't mean to stop you - it's just that you might find that, when you finally release the complete pack, interest might be somewhat lower than in any other freshly-released pack, because a lot of people have already played every individual level piece-by-piece.
Title: Re: Levels by NieSch [pack in the making]
Post by: NieSch on July 24, 2019, 05:20:01 AM
Oops, I didn't know there was already a level called "Bashing through the snow" out there. It seemed like the ideal title for a Christmas level to me, of course referring to "Dashing through the snow". Also the main thing in this level is about bashing and the music is Jingle Bells so I really like to keep the title this way. :)

About pre-releasing each level: I will pre-release two more (crystal and rock) and then learn from the feedback I get. After that I'm planning to make more levels and someday release the whole (small) pack at once.

Finally played some levels :)

Spoiler

Bashing through the Snow - I think I got this one intended. If so it's a very nice, well-hidden solution. I especially liked the idea of getting a second worker lemming separated from the crowd by using the stacker.

Enjoy Yourself - A very nice looking level! It seems that there are many ways to complete this level but none of them are obvious.

Out of the Frying Pan - I managed to save a blocker on this one so not sure if it's intended. Still a well-crafted and looking level. I liked the idea of the "cages" in the level design.

Why Worry? - This one I know for sure I backrouted :( The intended solution to this one looks like it's the hardest of what I have played so far to find.

Thanks Nessy! :)

About your solutions:

Spoiler
Bashing through the Snow: not intended, but a very good solution. I think my solution is easier than yours once you think of the trick I use for it.
Out of the Frying Pan: not completely intended, but a very good solution. This time I think my solution is a bit harder than yours. (The glider!) I might change the distance between cage 2 and the chain of cage 3 a bit so that platforming there like you did is no longer possible.
Enjoy Yourself: well done again. Like you said it's one of the many (not too easy) solutions.
Why Worry?: backroute. I have to tweak things again and maybe start by putting some steel above the exit. ;)

Edit: New version of Why Worry?:

Fun little level! I especially enjoyed the Lemmings you made from the terrain performing several tasks. The one with the barbells in the center was my favorite :)

Attached my solution below.
