Title: Nekoro
Post by: DragonsLover on May 29, 2012, 01:59:03 AM
Hello there! It's been a lil' moment I guess I didn't come here.

It's just to mention the existence of another Lemmings clone, this time in HTML5 using JavaScript, called Nekoro.

Here, you must guide cats (Neko means "cat" in japanese) to home in the shortest time possible. There's also a level editor included and it's actually in Beta-test.

There's however a lil' downside: it's in French. I don't know if an English version will exist.

I had a go at this today, it looks pretty neat so far, and super cute! :D Unfortunately I can't play any more levels right now, because of the 'credits' system which means you have to earn points (you get one per day) to unlock custom levels. This wouldn't be so bad, in fact it's an interesting system - there's points on offer for stumping players with your own levels too :o - but there are only two free 'official' levels at the moment, which is a bit limiting :P

I just finished building a level, which is quite a challenge compared to Lix (or even L1/Lemmix) due to the limited range of skills - notably, no builders! It seems like levels for this game are inevitably going to be simpler than in other IRS games, though of course that's not necessarily such a bad thing :).

Another thing I found quite amusing: direct drop! (Creatures falling onto the exit are saved regardless of fall distance.) A lot of levels use it, it seems to be an accepted game mechanic :D

If there was some kind of vote, I would vote for direct drop being an accepted game mechanic in any IRS game. I actually always thought it was an inherent property of the game and I used it in the original game. It's easy to avoid if you don't want to use it in a level your creating by putting steel or a trap over the exit.

This actually pretty fun!  :P (Though the credit system is a bit weird)

Game doesn't seem to like Firefox 3.5 or something else that is outdated here (Debian 6 with non-free Flash and Java; I'd need a lot of non-repository lib versions to install an up-to-date Firefox). Don't want to call this a flaw of the site though, you can't support everything forever.

The forced registration before even trying the game is a major bummer though, now I have an account I can't use. Don't they want publicity instead of being a walled garden?

I'm probably playing French Cat-Lemmings (my nickname for it) more than real Lemmings or Lix right now :D :-\. Beating everyone else's times is really fun, even if it is frustrating sometimes (where's my frame-by-frame :P), and I hope we can have a leaderboard like this for Lix sometime. A few of the mechanics are very strange with regard to time, like the seemingly inconsistent fling mechanics (the 'TNT' is like the placed time-delayed bomb in L3, but with fling), and parachutes that can make the creatures move faster in some situations.

And I mentioned level creation being a challenge... there's also the small matter of a mysterious bug that wipes your level when you try to save it. :scared:
