Title: What order should the levels be placed in for ONML?
Post by: Dullstar on September 17, 2009, 01:06:11 AM
Okay, judging by the topic of out of place levels, ONML needs a cleanup.

First of all what levels go where in the packs?  Don't worry about names.

Then, we need to decide what the order of levels for the game should be.  This could also help a little for the difficulty curve issue.

Note:  On the final list of where levels should go, let's post the names of the levels along with where we want them.

Here we are, the full set! (I excluded Tame, they are in the right order from set 10 to set 12.)

For a start, I would put Lemming Learning Curve as Crazy 1. It's too easy.

I should have said this earlier...

I didn't think of this until minimac mentioned Lemming Learning Curve...  if you can, give its current position.  Don't worry 'bout it, minimac, it was only an afterthought...

But I care about this topic, even if others don't.

The level I want to put in the end is the "Where lemmings Dare" level. It is really hard, even though it's a short level.

Good thoughts so far...  I'm going to see where the current position of those levels are, so I can rate it.  The Tame levels are all in the right rating, but as for the order, I'm not too sure.

There is a lot of time to edit your first post.

OK. Lemming Learning Curve is placed on Wicked 14 (Level 74).

Havoc 5 is another level that needs to place itself towards the end (Although I'm not sure about it, because it's such a short level). Also Wild 13.

The problem with a topic like this is that we're never going to reach agreement :P  Now I would say Havoc 5 should be dropped into Wild, and Wild 13 (for all that it's one of my favourite levels) should definitely not come later than its current position.

Anyway, I've drafted a reordering that I'm quite satisfied with. I've deleted the ten least interesting Tame levels (least interesting from the point of view of solving the level -- I apologise on behalf of the challenge solutions to these levels) to make room for other levels to be placed in Tame, leaving gaps in Wicked and Havoc that could be filled by new levels.

TAME
Tame 1, 2, 4, 5, 10, 7, 8, 13, 14, 18; Crazy 11, 12; Wild 17; Wicked 14; Havoc 10; Wild 8, 10, 16; Wicked 5; Havoc 6

CRAZY
Crazy 1, 5, 13; Wicked 9; Havoc 3; Crazy 3, 4, 6, 9, 19, 2, 7, 14, 18; Wild 9; Crazy 8, 15, 17; Wild 6; Wicked 2

WILD
Crazy 20; Wild 5, 13, 18; Wicked 8; Crazy 10, 16; Wild 2, 4, 19, 1, 7, 12, 20; Havoc 5; Wild 3, 11, 15; Havoc 9, 11

WICKED
Wicked 7, 20; Havoc 13; Wicked 4, 11, 12; Havoc 14; Wicked 1, 6, 17; Havoc 15; Wicked 3, 10, 13, 16; Havoc 8

HAVOC
Havoc 1, 12; Wicked 19; Havoc 18; Wicked 15, 18; Havoc 2, 4, 7, 16, 17, 19, 20

I was stumped on Wild 17 and had no clue how to do it. I would replace it with Crazy 1.

And for Wild 20, there isn't much to do there, so I would put it in Crazy along with Wild 1, 5, 7 and 16.

My gosh? Do you mean insert "user created" levels? If so, I'm so excited about that. I can't wait to put them in.

I almost have to do this now, because I disagree with a lot of Proxima's orderings  ;P

especially putting Havoc 10 and Wicked 5 in Tame of all places, those two levels were actually big roadblocks for me when I first saw them.

then again though, that's why I like these kinds of threads, subjective difficulty differences can be quite interesting.
