Lemmix with no sound
« on: November 10, 2007, 04:42:52 PM »
I know this is probably a stupid question, but at the moment when I run level packs through my copy of Lemmix, there's no sound. It's kinda the only thing that's dampening my experience of it. I have DOSBox and when I run Customised Lemmings normally through that, the sound and music are completely fine. Same with L2, L3 and others. I was just wondering if there's something I haven't done right. How can I play Lemmix with sound?

The Lemmix clones work like the DOS originals (with some extensions).
In the main menu press F3 (watch the icon change)
While playing press "m" to toggle music on and off.
While playing press "s" to toggle sound on and off.
These kind of settings are stored in an ini-file.
If that doesnt work, I don't know what's wrong.

Actually, what I've been doing is running imported levels through the editor itself, ie. with Tools-->Play this level. This is mainly so I can take advantage of the fast-forward and replay features. But there's still no sound. Is that what I'm doing wrong?

By the way, back in the day I played Lemmings on RISC OS, which was (as far as I know) pretty close to the Amiga version in terms of sound, music and presentation.

In my DOS version of Lemmings 2, the lemmings themselves have digitised voices saying "Let's Go!" etc, but in my DOS copy of Lemmings 1 there's a strange substitute sound instead. I can only assume it's something to do with the default sound configuration.

Anyway... I digress... Enough rambling from me. :)

Actually, you're hearing digitized voices in L2 and not in L1 because L1 didn't have any digital sound-- it used the synth for everything including sound effects.  By the time L2 rolled around digital sound cards had become more available so they added support.
