Profile picture updated to something more Lemming-y. :) Alas, it seems impossible to find any images of bearded lemmings in the public domain, so for now I'll have to settle for being a weirdy without a beardy.

I've never played Lix multiplayer but I'm eager to give it a try. I'm more familiar with Lemmings than Lix, etc. Are these games open to anyone who wants to drop by?

PS: I know I'll be terrible at Lix, but it still seems like fun...

I edited the original post and swapped out the original zip download for the latest version of the pack, with jkapp76's logo included (THANKS!) and the music all in a folder, in the right order.

Thank you so much for the Lemmings in Weirdyland logo! Very thoughtful. Also, the Acorn music I've been using is a very specific playlist, but I couldn't upload it to the forum because the file size was too large. I might try again later once I've figured out how to use cloud storage properly. :P

I haven't added the music folder, purely because I'm the only person who cares about my music choices. It's all just Acorn tunes, which can be found elsewhere. My own copy of the levels has the music just how I like it. *shrug*

NeoLemmix Levels / Lemmings in Weirdyland (2023 edition)
« on: January 22, 2023, 01:42:39 PM »
Well, after much messing around and tweaking and fiddling and faffing, I'm basically re-releasing my old levels in a fun format that will basically work on current NeoLemmix versions. It's barely even a "new" release, because all of these levels were just scraped from the archives. But I've given them the proverbial spit & polish and they're ready for a revisit, I suppose.

The general idea was just my own vanity project, combined with nostalgia - a chance for me to present my levels in the way I always wanted them to be presented, when I was younger and more active on the forums.

Features:
- 50 levels, in 5 groups of 10, with silly "difficulty ratings" attached (that aren't particularly consistent)
- A hand-picked music playlist taken shamelessly from the Acorn version of Lemmings (aka the version I fell in love with as a kid, and the version with the best music, in my humble opinion)... in other words, all the levels now have the music I originally intended them to have

And that's it, basically. If you're REALLY bored and have nothing better to do, check out my nonsense levels from 2008-2009, now in the neatly presented package. Feel frustrated or bored, just like I did. But also hopefully enjoy it a bit. Some of them ended up in Revenge of the Lemmings, after all.

Special thanks to kaywhyn and namida for giving me helpful and nudges on the road to getting this done.

Time for a nap, methinks. ;P

EDIT: The download should now be a Dropbox link. THIS is the version with the proper logo, and the proper music playlist, in the proper order.

I'm still having a little bit of trouble converting my levels to a file format that will run in the most recent version of NeoLemmix. I followed your instructions as best I could, but when I tried to played the cleansed nxlv files using either 12.7 or 12.12, it didn't seem to recognise them as valid level files, and I'm not sure why. Perhaps you could DM me to help me figure it out? Sorry to be a nuisance. And thanks again for your input so far.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the warm welcome. I imagine I'll be semi-lurking in these forums and piping up from time to time. I still love Lemmings, and thanks to NeoLemmix I can basically play it forever, but I'm not likely to be as active as I used to be. Having said that, if you're interested in my presence online (such as on YouTube or Twitch) I can usually be found under my alternate username, which is ScatterbrainWeirdy. :D 8-)

As for right now, my current "holy grail" is to get all my previous Lemmix levels to work in NeoLemmix, in their original order, and with the customised music that I choose. That would make my inner 12-year-old happy. :P I know that I need to change all the lvl files to nxlv files, and so far the conversion tools that I've tried to use (downloaded from namida's website) didn't work - but I'll look into it.

Cheers!

Hello again.

It's been 13(!) years since I posted here, and I wasn't sure where to post this message, but I just wanted to drop by and say hi. I've been casually getting back into Lemmings again, and it's great to see a community still thriving here. I created a total of 50 extremely modest and slightly rubbish levels in the old Lemmix LVL format back in 2009-2010, as well as a handful of custom levels for Lemmings 2. In more recent times I've totally fallen in love with the latest versions of NeoLemmix, and I was thrilled to see my levels from back in the day being included in the hand-picked community levels of Revenge of the Lemmings. I even watched namida and kaywhyn play some of them on YouTube, which was a lot of fun. I don't know if I have the energy or creativity to get back into making levels (and I was never that great at it anyway), but there's still plenty of fun to be had playing the thousands of levels that already exist.

So, hi. Hope everyone has been looking after themselves. It's been a long time.

And also, Happy New Year. 8-)

Just to let you know that I'll be taking a break from building Lemmings levels for the time being, until I can find more free time than I currently have... And spend less of my free time playing the dangerously-addictive LittleBigPlanet!

I will continue to lurk, just like I always have done. Respect and best wishes to all. :)

I just had a thought... Are the people who constitute this thread the only people making custom levels for Lemmings 2: The Tribes... in the WORLD?? :P

Thanks for the feedback, guys! I agree with Simon about the steel placement looking a bit ugly, but you understand the position I was in: any less steel and the level would become too easy; any more steel and it would look silly and pointless (for a good example of silly and pointless, look at my other Polar level).  :P

@geoo: Your solution is an interesting variation on my intended, but it's close enough for me to say that it isn't a backroute.  8) I tried for the simple approach this time, and I'm glad it seems to work! I feel like I've built a level that feels more-or-less at home among the standard of the official L2 game.

Thanks very much!   I've now got the suite working perfectly. I should have a new level submitted soon. I had one ready to go already, but I accidentally overwrote it!  :-[ But that's my fault and not the software's fault.  ;P

Watch this space.

Okay, here it is: my easy-peasy Polar level!  :D Hopefully you'll find it worth your time, even if it isn't particularly challenging. Feedback appreciated.

It says it can't find "mingwm10.dll"...  ???

Thanks for the L2Suite link! I actually remember the thread from the first time around. :) I downloaded then but forgot to download the dll files too. This time I've downloaded the dlls and unzipped into the same directory as the suite... and it still doesn't work! :( I says it can't find another dll file... one that isn't included in the zip. I'm stumped.
