Well I distinctly remember two recent versions that were discussed at some point on this very forum:  DHTML and mobile phone.  DHTML is fan-made though so I guess it'd be mobile phone.

But I don't actually know whether or not the mobile phone version lacks ONML content.

What version(s) of Lemmings 2 had a save feature?

Not too difficult, but it's the best I can come up with at the moment.

This can be hard when you aren't sure whether you even know all theversions of Lemmings 2 out there!

I know for sure that Amiga, PC, and SNES versions have the save feature.  I know the Sega can't because the standard Sega catridge has no support for battery-backed SRAM like SNES has (and in fact I remember it uses passwords in place of saves).  I would guess this carries over for Sega Mega-CD.  Likewise for GameBoy.  I don't even know for sure whether Atari ST is a computer or a console, and I know absolutely nothing about Archimedes Acorn. ;)

Well a good place to start is to switch "Archimedes" with "Acorn" :P

I'm a little confused though, how would Lemmings 2 work with a password system? You've got the various tribes, and not to mention the amount of lemmings that are carried over...

If I recall correctly, the passwords are tribe-specific, and the password opens up levels 1 thru X of tribe Y with so-and-so many lemmings left.

Or maybe it's just a password given to you when you complete all 10 levels, so the next time you can usethe password to unlock all 10 levels.  I really don't remember since I always use emulator savestates instead.  I'll have to replay that version and see.  It most likely doesn't retain as much info as you'd like.

I just looked up the codes for Genesis Lemmings 2 on Gamefaqs and it looks like they are simply a password to unlock all 10 levels of a tribe, for each of the 12 tribes. &#A0;So there is no save in terms of your performance on individual levels.

But note this: &#A0;a password on that version is 22 letters long! &#A0;Even if we assume for ease of programming that each letter is only 16 possibilities, you still end up with more than 3*10^22 (3 with 22 trailing zeros) combos! &#A0;In contrast, with 60 lemmings and 10 levels, even a naive bound of 61^10 is only about 7*10^17 (7 with 17 trailing zeros). &#A0;(The bound is just combo of 10 numbers from 0 to 60, which is a gross overestimate because most combos will add up to more than 60.) &#A0;This means a random guess would only hit a valid password roughly 1 out 50000 times. &#A0;In short, even though the Genesis doesn't seem to support it, it is probably quite possible to come up with a simple-to-compute (for the computer) and "secure" password system that would serve as a save for your performance on a particular tribe.

Also, now that I think of it, there's no reason to restrict to 16 rather than 26 letters, which only vastly expands the total number of possible passwords.  It might be helpful for programming to assume that the performance combo is 64^10 instead of 61^10, but the slightly increase there is obviously outdone by going to 26 letters.
