Forum Games / Re: What if _____ came to your house?
« on: January 21, 2010, 11:31:40 PM »
I open the door and there's waffles and pudding on my doorstep. Clearly this is going to be an excellent day.

The Waffles say "Hi"
...
This clearly was not a good day to get out of bed. I close the door and go back to bed. I REALLY hope this was a dream.

Next thing: The Beatles. All 4 of them.

"what kind of spambot is going to know what direction a Digger moves in?"

I for one think this is brilliant. Maybe not exactly that question, but a question like it that would be easier for people to get the same answer with, like "What color is a lemming's hair?"

The only way to deviate on that question is if

A: You don't know how to spell your colors
OR
B: You capitalize it. And that problem is easily nullified by an ignore case command.

"it has yet to reach peak practicality"

Light at any speed we choose; ah...
The other thing is you'd have to slow it down all the time... Like whenever it was going anywhere it would have to be slowed down. Those would be some expensive 'wires'

Right now though each of our transistors can only store one state; 1 or 0.
A component comprised of a bit counter (without a clock component) hooked up to multiple inputs combined with another component with 4 transistors could provide 16 possible physical states with the space required to fit 4 ordinary transistors though; and it would be a pain for the software designers but you could in theory make a system X times more efficient using a non-binary method.

If you ask me that's the best way to make stuff faster. Multiple inputs, one output; it would provide for the ability to read 4 inputs at once through the reception of one output, the numerical value of which could range from 0 to 16. Of course processing would still be linear, but all data would take 1/4 as long to process due to greater compression.

"light is just that much more efficient."

Light would be nice, but it's really quite problematic as a Data Transfer method.

Basically it's too fast. It's difficult to control the flow of light because it's so fast. Electrical communications and logic is possible because it's actually pretty slow. Electricity moves actually pretty slowly, it's just that because what you're actually controlling is at the most basic level a force, not a physical object, all the electrons in circuit X start moving at once when you apply potential difference.

So sorry, but unless you can slow down light quite a bit, it's not incredibly feasible.

I think we've about reached the limits of physics' ability to provide the answers. If I'm wrong, alert the press.

Instead I think we gotta look at how we can organize what we have better.

Apparently..

   - Almost everyone who's responded to this also has Aspergers
   - A lot of people have responded to this

THEREFORE

-There are a LOT of people on this forum with Aspergers syndrome.

Am I the only one who finds this hilarious?

Apparently I'm on the edge; the only reason I'm not diagnosed with Aspergers now is because the score for whatever test you take to find out whether you have aspergers/autism was recently lowered.

"what is required to compute"

This is an interesting idea... At what point does the future get really boring because there's no further need for faster computing? At what point does the speed at which the computer works become irrelevant because it's always faster than the user is capable of responding?

Anyway, I don't really think we can rely on the past as a guide for what's to come.

In 1970... Maybe it was 1980, maybe 1960, it really doesn't matter, some guy predicted that the number of transistors humans could fit into a given area would rise by some ridiculous factor every year thereafter. He had no historical precedent for this prediction, in fact it contradicted the past, and yet he turned out to be exactly right.

General Discussion / Re: Stupid Computer Features
« on: January 02, 2010, 01:17:05 AM »
Stupid features; I have one. Lack of features.

iPods; there's iPods out there that cannot be turned off. Literally. Whose great idea was that!? I LIKE "off"

Then there's my iPod. The buttons are attached to the headphones, so you can't use the thing unless you have the right headphones. Apple sells them, and nobody else is allowed to unless licensed to do so by Apple.

I am done complaining about iPods now. Thank you.

Also, if anyone has recieved grief from iTunes, I would gladly sympathize with them and further sink into the pit of dissatisfaction.

Happy New Year, all. I don't know if anyone else I knew is even still on here, but I'm back. I've been gone for oh... About 4 years.

"I have my hopes up for 8th grade - hopefully it won't be as bad"

Unless you're in Sparta life is what you make it. Ask questions. You can get about 4 times more "learning" out of a class by asking questions, because seriously in most classes the teacher teaches about 1% of what they can teach because 1% of the class is too stupid to learn more.

Unless you're outside of the US. If that's the case please ignore everything I just said because I have no clue how school outside the US are in general.

General Discussion / Evidence is a NOUN, NOT A VERB >=E
« on: March 14, 2009, 02:43:47 AM »
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/evidence

It's not fair... It's a noun, not a verb. You can't just go change it because people feel like using it as a verb. X_X

If it's supposedly a verb used with an object, then what's the Present tense form? Evidence? It just doesn't work as a verb..

Please tell me I'm not insane, that someone other than me cares about this injustice. That someone else knows what 'corroborated' means. And the dictionary.com definition there skews it a bit I think. They say both meanings, but they put emphasis on the 'confirm' part of the meaning. I've never seen corroborate used in a way that means anything but 'prove.' >_<

Sorry for making a poll with a predetermined set of results, but I saw the poll option as I was making the thread and thought "Why not..." So anyway Proven by or Corroborated by would both work depending on the situation.

~In all about 39,100,000 tons produced.
Petroleum is found in Galicia
copper is extracted in Tirol

Important Manufactured Products: Fire arms, files, wire, nails, tin plate scythes, sickles, steel pens, needles, rails, iron furniture, drains, and kitchen utensils.
-These are made primarily in Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia, Upper and Lower Austria, Styria and Carinthia- these places all contain ҥxtensive iron-worksҬ

The most important place of derivation and of destination for the Austro-Hungarian trade is the German empire with about 40% of the imports, and about 60% of the exports. Next in importance comes Great Britain, afterwards India, Italy, the United States of America, Russia, France, Switzerland, Rumania, the Balkan states and South America in about the order named. The principal articles of import are cotton and cotton goods, wool and woollen goods, silk and silk goods, coffee, tobacco and metals. The principal articles of export are wood, sugar, cattle, glass and glassware, iron and ironware, eggs, cereals, millinery, fancy goods, earthenware and pottery, and leather goods.

Oh Yeah, BTW "For the past two days I've had "Alabama Song" played by the Doors stuck in my head...which gets really depressing after a while once you know what they're actually saying.  Yae I've moved off to collej = 0 ."

And you still do... This was in september you were saying this? Given the circumstances, it appears that YOU WILL NEVER RID YOUR HEAD OF ALABAMA SONG!

By virtue of the will of the Lady of the Lake, I hereby lay claim to the throne of...

Wait, wrong excalibur... The Rollercoaster; This is ridiculously easy... I charge people to ride the thing, and use the money to buy a pie. OR The owners of Valleyfair suddenly realize that their Rollercoaster doesn't belong to them anymore. General response of management: "???????!?"

So I could also sell it back to them and use that money.

Use helium to obtain a pie. ~When you recieve this Helium, it is NOT in a container of any kind save the atmosphere... It's probably gonna stay in the atmosphere.
