how wordy can I get?
« on: July 27, 2005, 08:41:16 PM »
What is the maximum length of a post in this forum anyway?

Sadly, I think I had exceeded the length once or twice during posting and had to split the post up to get around the limit.

Somehow I'd think the limit can be changed by the admin, so I'm wondering what's Andi's current definition of overly wordy.  ;P

It's actually 5500. Too less?

Nah, I was just curious that's all.

It's not like I run into this problem all the time, only I think maybe 2 or 3 times so far.  I'd guess that anything longer is probably better off being put into its own web page or something and just post a link to it here.

If we take 500 words as an acceptable maximum, then 5500 characters translates to max of 11 characters per word.  Since spaces and punctuation are presumably counted, this menas an average word length of 9-10 letters, which I think is above the real-world average.  In other words, 5500 characters should easily support more than 500 words in a post.

(Knowing the limit does also helps when I need to split something long into multiple posts.  I wouldn't need to keep guessing where to split.)

Not really.  No amout of editing is going to get around the 5500 character limit as far as I can tell.
